where to eat in Florence

With amazing pasta dishes, pizza, roasted vegetables, cured meats, and wines, Italy is definitely a haven for foodies in Europe. And Florence definitely does not disappoint as it has so many amazing restaurants that serve the best meals using ingredients directly from Tuscany.

1) Foody Farm

Sandwiches from Foody Farm

Foody Farm is a convenient spot that I visit often due to its excellent hours and family-friendly staff. On the menu at Foody Farm, you’ll find a great selection of Tuscan favorites, with a twist. For example, for lunch and dinner they offer a broccoli, sausage, and cream sauce pasta that is delectable, as well as a very flavorful ribollita, which is a vegetable stew but is served as a sandwich at Foody Farm. Their chicken fingers with French fries and a cheese sauce are also super kid-friendly and really tasty. Foody Farm also has an excellent selection of wines and desserts to linger over. Foody Farm also has free, fast Wi-Fi and if you visit during off hours, it would be acceptable to do a bit of work before or after dining.

2) Mercato Centrale

Pizza from Mercato Centrale

Mercato Centrale is another hip spot for food that is open all day long. The first floor of Mercato Centrale is a typical food market, but the second floor is a place to dine on food prepared just for you. It is a fun space, where everyone in your party can dine on something different — from Chinese dumplings to Sicilian food — you’ll find it at Mercato Centrale. My picks are the pizza, orecchiette pasta, and arancini. A wide selection of wines and beers are also available at Mercato Centrale.

3) Zoe

Salad from Zoe

Located right near the stunning Bardini Museum, Zoe is a fast spot for a tasty meal, especially on a day when you can sit in their outdoor patio. Zoe serves up sandwiches, burgers, and salads. My suggestion at Zoe is the massive chicken and bacon salad, which is such a huge salad that is filled with great fresh vegetables, a ton of tender chicken breast, and a lot of bacon.

4) S. Forno

Fig pizza and S.Forno

S. Forno is a slightly hard to find (because of limited signage) bakery that offers delectable sandwiches and pizzas. The food available changes daily, but I’ve eaten their fig and pancetta pizza and a tasty pancetta salad, and both were delicious. In the mornings, they also have typical Italian pastries and coffee served from a large help-yourself pot.

5) Bottega di Pasticceria

Pumpkin gnocchi from Bottega di Pasticceria

Bottega di Pasticceria is a tasty patisserie that also serves lunch. While the menu changes daily, I have to recommend ordering the pumpkin gnocchi, which is delightfully creamy with every bite. But don’t fill up on your meal because you have to follow your meal with an espresso and pastry or two. Their pastries are really reasonably priced at less than 2 EUR / 2.32 USD a piece, yet look as though they should be much more expensive. Bottega di Pasticceria also has free Wi-Fi, so this is a great place to stop if you need to check your email.
