Albay is a scenic province in Luzon, Philippines, known for its rich terrestrial and marine ecosystem. Enlisted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mayon Volcano is an iconic landmark and a must-see attraction sitting in a national park in the province. According to the official state tourism website, the province houses around 462 species of flora and fauna, out of which 137 are indigenous. It was also declared a Biosphere Reserve in UNESCO’s MAB Programme, which excites me even more to explore this destination. Sumlang Lake is a great spot for wholesome fun, offering picturesque mountain views, boat rentals, and picnic spots. Outdoor enthusiasts can visit Quitinday Green Hills Formation Reserve for a nature hike in lush hills with volcano views. Albay also offers some of the most beautiful beaches in the Philippines as three bodies of water surround it, namely Ragay Gulf, Lagonoy Gulf, and Albay Gulf. For an unforgettable stay in the province, check out the best beach resorts in Albay, Philippines.
Getting around:
Tourists coming from Manila can hop onto a bus to reach Albay, which is operated daily.
Popular modes of transport within the province are jeepneys, Public Utility Vehicle (PUVs), e-buses, padyak, and local tricycles.
Popular picks in Albay:
Nature lovers will love Cagraray Eco-Energy Park in Bacacay, offering beautiful views of the ocean and the nearby islands. Be sure to witness the beautiful sunrise at Cagraray Amphitheater and try ziplining here.
Explorers can trek across the river and swim a seven-foot lagoon at Hoyop-hoyopan Cave, which means “cave of the bats.”

- While there are 19 festivals celebrated here in different cities, the most popular one is the annual Magayon Festival. It's celebrated in May to honor the province's beauty and also stages the birth of the volcano.

Beach life in Albay
Albay offers a plethora of exotic destinations for beach lovers. Make sure to include Pinamuntugan Beach on your itinerary, where you’ll be enchanted by the white sands and crystal-clear waters. In addition to swimming, you can also enjoy snorkeling, spearfishing, and beachcombing. It’s over an hour’s boat ride from the city port, and the best time to visit is in the morning.
You can also hike to Vera Falls, nestled at the foot of Mt. Malinao, for a relaxing swim. Trinity Islands in Oas also offers a perfect destination for your beach excursions. Known for their pebbly, sandy shores, dense vegetation, and blue lagoon, the islands can be reached by a 10-minute boat ride from the mainland. Diving is also a popular activity here.
Another hidden gem worth exploring is Vanishing Island in Malilipot, which is only visible from 7am to 5pm.

3. Misibis Bay, Cagraray (from USD 181)
Buffet breakfast and good food at the Spice Market, but some items are overpriced.
Highly priced with a significant gap in the overall experience.
Adjacent to a beautiful beach, peaceful and classy ambiance, and helpful staff.
Beautiful beachfront location, individual villas with lagoon views, and a well-maintained pool.
Looking for a luxurious resort in Albay with a private pool? Then you might want to check out Misibis Bay in Cagraray.
This excellent island resort boasts a fantastic location right in front of a private beach. Misibis Bay has an infinity pool where you can enjoy refreshing laps while admiring stunning sea views. You’ll be provided with sun umbrellas and beach towels, too. Younger guests will be delighted to have access to outdoor play equipment and an indoor play area.
There is a modern fitness center on the property for those who wish to stay active. Families can bond while having fun in the game room. Plus, the property offers diving courses and packages, as well as other watersports. I am always keen on taking up new adventures and thanks to this amenity, it’s possible to explore underwater life and try new sports.
- Property highlights: The resort offers diving packages and different courses for those who wish to master this skill.
- Nearest beach: The beach is barely steps away from the property.

What guests are saying about their beach stay:
- "...The newly built recreations center offers exciting new amenities for guests - jetskis, kayaks, and paddle boards if that’s your thing. You can also dive at the resort’s house reef - honestly some of the best conserved in the Albay Gulf area. While the main beach (close to the resort amenities and villas) is rocky, they now allow access to the area they call the Marina, which is a short stretch of beach with much better sand and better views of the open Pacific Ocean at the western side of the resort. This is also where they do their fish feeding activity." - Rick Malaya

Tip from tour guide
I recently visited Tres Hijos Hotel & Resort in San Isidro, Sto Domingo, Albay, which is a short 10–15-minute drive from this property. They have added a special Christmas Village Lighting section for the upcoming festivities. It's open from 5pm to 10pm, making it a great spot for an evening outing. The entry fees are reasonable, with tickets for adults priced at 50 PHP (0.90 USD), seniors and PWDs at 40 PHP (0.72 USD), and children under 11 at just 25 PHP (0.45 USD).
Tip from tour guide
Experience the serene beauty of Torill Farm and Camp, located in the peaceful area of San Roque, Malilipot, just a half-hour drive from Mirisbiris Garden and Nature Center. The climb to the camp takes about 1-2 hours. While access to the lava dome of Mt. Mayon is limited as it's an active volcano, the campsite still offers stunning views for visitors. Note that it's quite cold at the top.
Entrance is affordable at 100 PHP (1.81 USD), and hiring a guide is an additional 309 PHP (5.59 USD). We took the Bonga trail to reach Torill Camp. Remember to check the latest safety updates before starting your hike!

Since you'll be staying in Manito, you can embark on a trip to Quimahat Falls. There's no entry fee to visit this destination, and you can get there from Centrong Manito. However, it's better to have your own transport, since the falls are still quite a bit away from the town center. Prepare for a 30-minute hike to the falls, which adds to the adventure. Keep in mind, based on personal experience, that the falls might be dry sometimes. Some locals have mentioned that it's possibly due to drought conditions. Despite this, the area is still great for wild camping and enjoying some peaceful time in nature.
