Where do you want to spend your next holiday? If Borobudur temple is the answer, then we have a very good hotel recommendation for those of you who prefer to stay in a place that has “traditional features”. Just 15 minutes away from the famed Borobudur temple, the Amata Borobudur Resort was designed in such a way to allow visitors experience life in a real Javanese environment.

Living in a Javanese style bungalow

Opened in 2014, Amata Borobudur Resort spells luxurious relaxation for those who seek a getaway in traditional settings. In the past, the people in Java live in a wooden house, large enough for an extended family to stay together. At Amata Borobudur Resort, you too will live in such a place. However, instead of living in a big house, you will live in a one bedroom Javanese-styled bungalow with no kitchen!

Traditional settings, modern living!

A bungalow interior at Amata Borobudur Resort.

You will not find anything like this elsewhere on Earth. Similar to the interior of a rich modern house, you will find air-conditioning, comfy sofa and a 32-inch LED TV, but almost everything else has been designed to look as Javanese as possible. Just like any other traditional Javanese house; the walls, ceilings, window panes and all furniture other than the sofa and the mattress are made out of raw wood. To make it more Javanese, they add a curtain with special flowery design called batik on its windows.

Javanese-style restaurant with diverse cuisines

Salmon steak with mashed potatoes and garden salad.

If you are lazy to head out for a meal, do consider dining in the resort’s cosy restaurant, which lies in the middle of the garden. Again, the restaurant’s design is very Javanese. There is no entrance door, windows or whatsoever that will prevent the circulation of cool mountain air in the premises. For your information, Amata Borobudur Resort is located 269 meters above sea level, so the outdoor weather is pretty cool.

The restaurant’s structure may have a Javanese theme, but they serve various kinds of foods (mainly Indonesian, Chinese and Western). One of the specialty is salmon steak. Served with mashed potatoes and salad, this is a delicious and healthy choice for you.

Meals by the swimming pool

Dawet, an Indonesian cold beverage.

At Amata Borobudur Resort, the swimming pool area offers you something that is more than just a place for swimming. After swimming, what about having a local refreshing beverage? “Dawet” is a local drink - a concoction of jelly and jackfruit in coconut milk sweetened with brown sugar and the fragrance of pandan leaf. Or would you like to have a romantic meal with candlelights? You can have it too here.

Only 15 minutes from Borobudur temple

Borobudur Resort is located at Jl. (St.) Mendut Sendangsono no. 1, Borobudur, Magelang, Indonesia. It only takes 15 minutes to get to Borobudur. Tourists who are heading to the temple will easily see this resort. You can enjoy these luxuries for under 100 USD. A deluxe bungalow costs 93 USD. If you prefer to stay in a bigger room, book a superior room for 116 USD.

It can be a perfect bungalow stay for honeymooners too!

Special bed arrangements for guests who are celebrating their honeymoon or wedding anniversary.

If you are going on a honeymoon, advise the hotel prior to your arrival and you may be pleasantly surprised with how professionally the hotel staffs will arrange everything (e.g. a bed with scattered rose petals, romantic dinner etc.) for you and your partner. This will make your honeymoon extra special!

Live in a unique bungalow!

Unless you go to remote villages in Central and East Java or places like the Keraton (the palace for Javanese royal families) in Solo or Jogjakarta, you will not see too many houses with ancient Javanese architecture. This is what makes the hotel so special! Not only will you see the unique architecture, but you will also live in it!
