Do you happen to be in the batik city (Indonesian floral artwork and paintings) of Solo in Central Java at the moment? If you’re looking to stay in a budget, but very decent hotel that is conveniently located in the center of Solo and is adjacent to the best Chinese restaurant in town, it is Diamond hotel!

Old but golden

This is one of the oldest hotels in Solo, but it is very well maintained. The big yard, and tall pillars that support the lobby entrance give people an impression of a Dutch style house. This hotel has been one of the favorite hotels in Solo for decades, and there are always many guests that stay here even on weekdays.

The indoors are air conditioned

The lobby is simple and clean. There are not too many decorative ornaments except for some vegetation planted in big ceramics vases. However, it’s comfy to spend some time here. Despite the hot weather outside the hotel, and the sunlight that comes through its glassed walls, it is cool all day long because it is air conditioned. Wi-Fi connection is fast, so you can do any online work here. Also for those who understand Indonesian, and like to read the Indonesian newspaper, there are also local newspapers for the guests to read (Kompas and Suara Merdeka).

Cosy & well-equipped rooms

The hotel rate is affordable, starting from USD 25 for the superior room, to 60 USD for an executive suite (executive suite has a separate living and dining room). The room and its private bathroom are clean. The satellite TV has more than 50 channels from most continents of the world. If you bring kids with you, they will love to stay here as the channels include children’s channels, like Cartoon network and Disney Junior. High-speed Wi-Fi is also accessible from all rooms. The AC is in good condition, and the hot shower runs well all day long. You will also get 2 bottles of complimentary mineral water and bathing supplies. It’s really worth the money, isn’t it?

Yummy dim sum for breakfast

The best thing about this hotel is its free dim sum breakfast for 2! Each will get 2 portions (each has 3 or 4 pieces), and a cup of tea or coffee. There are more than 20 different items you can choose from. They have good shao mai (烧麦, steamed prawn and meat dumplings) and onde onde (碌堆, fried sesame cake), so don’t miss those 2 items. If 2 portions of dim sum don’t fill you up, you can always order for more (starts from 1.50 USD per portion).

Join the crowd on a car-free day

Do you need a workout? There is no fitness center, swimming pool, or tennis court in the hotel, but there is a way to exercise on Sunday morning. Join hundreds of Solo residents to work out on a car-free day. The occasion is held weekly on Jalan Slamet Riyadi (jalan: street), the street where the hotel is located, from 6am to 9am. While the road is always full of traffic, being polluted with car and motorcycle fumes all week (it’s one of the major roads in Solo), on Sunday morning the road is clear from any motor vehicles. Many Solo residents take advantage of this event to jog, bike, roller skate, or simply take a brisk walk to enjoy the fresh air.

It's a busy hotel, book now!

This hotel is only 15 minutes away from Adi Sumarmo international airport, and next to Diamond convention hall (it is under the same management with the hotel). On weekends, many times there are wedding occasions held both in the hall, and Diamond restaurant (the restaurant has a large ballroom on its 2nd floor) held on the same day, where many of the invitees stay here for the night. So if you want to stay here on weekends, book at least 2 weeks prior to your visit, or else you won’t get a room.
