Purwokerto is a town on the island of Java, Indonesia. It is the capital of Banyumas Regency, Central Java region. Located in the middle of Java Island within the province of Jawa Tengah (Central Java) near the base of Mount Slamet, the second-tallest volcano in Central Java, the city is bisected by the Kali Kranji (Kranji River).
