Despite its name, you don’t have to dig a whole in your pocket to visit Gourmetkorv. This famous chain features restaurants all over Gothenburg, offering some 60 different sausage dishes to hungry locals. Koka (‘cook’ in Swedish) is another of Gothenburg’s Michelin acclaimed restaurants. No surprise there, as the trout roe alone deserves a Michelin star! Modernly designed with a Nordic touch, Koka is the perfect spot for a dinner for two or a group of friends coming together to celebrate. Both kitchen staff and front of house go above and beyond to exceed guests’ expectations. The 7 course tasting menu is probably the most Instagram-friendly meal you’ll have in Gothenburg.

4. 4. Restaurang Sjömagasinet
Where better to enjoy the treasures of the sea than by the waterfront? Locals love coming to Restaurang Sjömagasinet to enjoy turbot and the relaxed atmosphere. 5. 5. Magazzino Ristorante
Whoever said you can’t get proper Italian pizza in Sweden was clearly wrong. Magazzino Ristorante is a gem for the entire family, with its warm ambience and authentic sourdough pizzas. When you take a bite of the delicious buffalo mozzarella, it’s almost like being whisked away to Naples instead of central Gothenburg. During peak hours the service is sometimes a bit slower, but it will be worth the wait.

6. 6. The Barn

Get your dose of all things Americana at The Barn. Designed as an actual barn, it doesn’t get more prairie than this. The rustic but homely interior almost feels like a home away from home, rather than a restaurant. As for the food, most people come here for the juicy burgers, with incredible veggie burgers available too. Sip on a Brooklyn Lager or a caramel shake for that Yankee feel.

7. 7. Bord 27
Classy restaurant Bord 27 located in Haga has a loving feel to it. It’s one of those places where you feel right at home as soon as you spot the menu. This small but cosy restaurant treats your taste buds to pilgrim mussels, an amazing steak tartar and desserts like licorice ice cream. Bord 27 tends to get more crowded and buzzing as the night goes by. Go here on a Sunday for cheaper Champagne!

8. 8. Vietnamhaket
A favorite with vegetarians, Vietnamhaket caters for anyone wanting to spice up their Gothenburg trip with some Asian flavors. Here you’ll enjoy authentic Vietnamese dishes like Pho noodle soup, which is their specialty. We’d also recommend Banh Xeo, a kind of pork pancake. It’s by no means a fancy restaurant, but the quality of the food more than makes up for it. Some say they serve the best Vietnamese food you can find in Sweden.

Spending the day in the historic Haga district? Sjöbaren saves the day with its menu of Swedish and European masterpieces. Do try the lovely marinated herring with new potatoes as a starter, followed by the catch of the day. The selection of seafood is impressive; the seafood platters are to die for. The homemade chocolate truffles make the perfect ending to any meal. The restaurant is on the smaller side, so it’s recommended that you book in advance.
