Barrington’s Crabtree Nature Center is home to many species of animals and plants, as well as rare habitats. Visitors enjoy the bird-feeding stations, watching the diverse species flock in for a feast. Additionally, the Crabtree Nature Center hosts various events involving arts and crafts, animals, etc. There are also numerous hiking trails which open up to vast natural habitats. The Crabtree Nature Center is the perfect way to escape the bustle of everyday life, and maybe even learn a thing or two about the life surrounding us.

2. Catlow Theater

Since its grand opening in May of 1927, the Catlow Theater still remains a high-quality experience. The Catlow Theater was the first theater to open in Barrington, and currently operates with one screen. The theater has improved digital projection and sound, as well as in-theater dining. Catlow Theater was also the first theater to offer dining, in 1988. The theater is now on the National Register of Historic Places and is definitely a must-see destination. With a comfortable viewing experience in a one-of-a-kind historic theater, what more can you ask for?

3. The Arboretum of South Barrington

The Arboretum of South Barrington is an action-packed shopping center. It features numerous well-known stores, including L.L. Bean’s first midwestern outdoor store. Additionally, the Arboretum has a state-of-the-art bowling alley and bistro, Pinstripes. That’s not all, though, there is also an iPic Cinema as well as numerous restaurants, bars, and lounges. It also hosts many events ranging from outdoor concerts to car shows. Whether you’re traveling alone or with the kids, there is something for anyone at the Arboretum.

4. Barrington Art Festival

The Barrington Art Festival is held annually on memorial day weekend. This unique festival is located just thirty minutes north of Chicago and offers the community a chance to purchase local art. With the backdrop of downtown Barrington, the festival takes place in the perfect location packed full of chic boutiques and charming cafes. 6. Paul Douglas Forest Preserve

This little retreat is a great way to get the whole family outdoors while also offering the ability to appreciate local wildlife. The Paul Douglas Forest Preserve contains a 7-mile (11 km) trail which is perfect for easy hiking, biking, in-line skating, or, in the winter months, cross-country skiing. The trail connects with the Crabtree Forest Preserve, which could knock out a couple of destinations if you’re feeling ambitiously outdoors-y. Paul Douglas also contains a heron rookery which is an imperative breeding ground for the numerous birds. This forest preserve is the place to be.
