2. Old Westbury Gardens

The Old Westbury Gardens is an area made up of 100 acres (40 hectares) of botanical gardens. It may not be the most interesting place for kids, but it does make for a fantastic walk, being able to see all the different plants and flowers. 6. Sagamore Hill National Historic Site

Sagamore Hill was the home of the 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, from 1885 until his death in 1919. And it is a beautiful home at that. This is definitely something that people should check out when they are in the area. The trails and the museum are free to the public, and pets can even be walked along the trails outside, but there is a small fee to get into the house.

7. The Waterfront Center

The Waterfront Center is definitely something to do on a bright and sun shiny day. The educated and licensed individuals that run this place actually teach young and old people to drive a boat. It’s like driving school, but for a sailboat. The reason they opened the shop was to get people outside and doing something in the waters of the Oyster Bay, instead of staying inside and playing games all day. It’s a great way to get out and learn something new. The staff are really friendly too, so don’t be afraid to ask questions or share any concerns. 8. Port Washington Water Taxi

The water taxi runs throughout the day, and well into the night, so it’s available almost any time that visitors may want to check it out. They offer launch services to town moorings during certain seasons and small tours around the Manhasset Bay area. They both cost a small fee, and it’s always nice to tip the driver wherever you may go, as they often know a lot of information and are very helpful in sharing the history of the areas.
