Homestead is a town located south of Miami before the start of the Florida Keys. It is considered a suburb of Miami, and is a gateway to accessing the Florida Everglades. Homestead is famous for finding a balance between cultures with the thriving Hispanic community on one side, and the adrenaline-seeking racing fans on the other. This theater dates back to the early 20th century and it has been renamed quite a few times. Later, it stayed shut for nearly four decades before being restored to its former glory in 2015. Since then, the theater has regularly hosted countless performances. You may check the official website and calendar of events for shows that are likely to interest you. 2. Wat Buddharangsi Buddhist Temple

This beautiful public park is perfect for outdoor recreation, exercising, and leisurely picnics. It features walking and jogging paths, volleyball and basketball courts, and soccer fields. There are playgrounds and restrooms alongside barbecue facilities, should you wish to make a day of it. The park also has plenty of benches for you to sit and relax. The dedicated dog zone ensures that you can bring your pet with you on these outings. Pavilions can be rented on a daily basis for private events or occasions.

6. Coral Castle Museum

The Coral Castle Museum is located off of US-1 about an 11-minute drive north of the historical area of Homestead. This outdoor museum is the accomplishment of a man Name Ed Leedskalnin, who carved the structures from limestone. The structures can be toured using audio stands, with instruction available in English, Spanish, French, and German. Guided tours are also available. The Coral Castle is open from Sunday through Thursday from 8 am to 6pm, as well as Friday and Saturday from 8 am to 8 pm. Admission tickets are 18 USD fro adults (ages 13 to 64), 15 USD for seniors (ages 65 and older), 8 USD for children (ages 7 through 12) and free admission for children age 6 and under. There are special group rates available, and the museum is available for private events.

7. Everglades Alligator Farm

It wouldn’t be a trip to the Everglades without seeing some Florida Alligators. At the Everglades Alligator Farm, guests can views shows of Alligator feedings, and ride in an airboat through the swamps of South Florida. This establishment is the oldest farm of its kind in South Florida and is home to over 2,000 gators. There are 2 packages that guests can choose from. One includes an airboat ride, admission to the alligator farm, and viewing of a show. This is 27 USD for adults, and 19.50 USD for children. The second option is admission to the alligator farm, and a show viewing, this option is 19.50 USD for adults and 14.50 USD for children. Just as a note, individuals are considered children from ages 4 to 11. There are 4 different types of interactive shows guests can enjoy: the snake show, the alligator show, the alligator feeding, and the animal experience (available only with reservations). These shows take place multiple times a day and at different times, so checking the website for scheduling information is recommended.

8. Monkey Jungle

Because of Miami’s tropical climate, the Monkey Jungle provides its inhabitants with an environment nearly identical to what they would find in the wild. The 30-acre wildlife park is home to over 300 primates, and is one of only a few locations for endangered primates in the United States. There are 5 different experiences available at the park, 4 featuring a different species of primate and one featuring tropical birds. The park is open from 9:30 am to 5 pm with the ticket office closing at 4 pm. Adult tickets are 29.95 USD, children (ages 3 to 9) are 23.95 USD, and seniors (those age 65 and up) are 27.95 USD.

9. Homestead Miami Speedway

The Homestead-Miami Speedway has been a community gathering point for decades now. The track plays host to various NASCAR, IndyCar, and Championship Cup races with large fields of competitors. It has been the location of the final race for 3 NASCAR series since 2002 and consistently draws huge crowds to see the action. The speedway is located on the southeastern corner of Homestead, about a 15 minute drive from central Homestead and about an hours drive from Miami. Ticket sales vary greatly, but guests can buy them on the speedway’s website.

10. Knaus Berry Farm

The Knaus Berry Farm has been a family owned and operated establishment for more than 50 years. This once roadside stand has flourished into a organization that the community gathers to support. The farm is where guests can pick berries right from the plant, or go to the farm store and buy freshly made baked goods, ice cream, and more delicious treats. The farm is open from 8 am to 5:30 pm from Monday through Saturday. Guests should note that the store only accepts cash and is open seasonally from November to mid-April.

11. Fruit and Spice Park

The Fruit and Spice Park is a lush botanical garden that takes up 37-acres and has a combining total of over 500 species of spices, herbs, fruit, and vegetables. The park is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm. Guided tours are held from 11 am, 1:30 pm, and at 3 pm. Admission is 8 USD for adults, and 2 USD for children ages 6 to 11. Children under the age of 6 have free admission. The Fruit and Spice Park is often host to festivals and events throughout the year. There is also an onsite restaurant that features dishes highlighting the bounty of the park. The café is open from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm.

12. Schnebly Redland’s Winery and Brewery

Schnebly Redland’s Winery and Brewery is located in western Homestead. The facility is world-class and features a shop the sells the wines available from the winery, tours of the facility, tasting sessions, a brewery, and restaurant. The Winery holds Friday Night Karaoke, live music, and other community events. The Winery makes a great venue for birthday parties, weddings, and other private events.

13. Homestead Historic Town Hall Museum

Built in 1917, this is the original town hall of Homestead, Florida and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The town hall has been converted into a museum that tells the story of Homestead. The museum is home to many vintage photos of the city, along with an antique fire engine. Previous guests loved the lovely tour guide, who takes much pride in the museum she has created. The museum is a great little treat right in the middle of Historic Homestead.

14. Everglades Outpost

The Everglades Outpost is a locally owned facility created in 1991 in order to help animals in need. This non-profit organization relies on the donations of its patrons in order to keep up its work. The outpost is a great place for patrons to learn about the natural environment of South Florida for adults and children alike. The center has animals such as a Florida Panther, lemur, zebra, alligators, a camel. It is a small organization with a big heart, and its dedicated volunteers deserve some recognition for the work they do.

15. Homestead Bayfront Park

If you’re looking to spend some time in nature, the Homestead Bayfront Park is a great option. This park is located east of downtown Homestead, well past the speedway. Bayfront Park and Biscayne National Park are separated by a small canal that allows boaters into the boat ramp facilities, but both can be accessed by taking Canal Drive from Homestead. The park allows for boating, fishing, and other outdoor activities. There is an entrance fee per vehicle of 7 USD on weekends and holidays, during the week it is 5 USD. Fro busses or RVs the charge is 15 USD on all days. Bayfront gives guests the opportunity to take advantage of Florida’s nature and get some rejuvenating outdoor time in the sunshine.
