2. Blue Crab Festival: experience Little River at its best

The Blue Crab Festival first began in 1981, when it was just a few vendors and business owners that got together to try and bring more visitors to the waterfront. From then until now, this southeast festival has grown to become one of the largest in the region. With an expected 50,000 visitors each year, this two-day festival (May 19th and 20th) is perfectly situated along the Grand Strand. Operating times are from 9.00am to 6.00pm and the festival is a plethora of colour, scents and sounds. You’ll easily be able to find something to call your own, from any of the fine arts, crafts, or speciality food vendors.

This pristine vineyard is literally translated as: ‘the beautiful friend’. La Belle Amie Vineyard, a former tobacco plantation, has been owned by the Bellamy family since the 1800s. Open to the public every Tuesday through to Saturday, between 10.00am and 06.00pm, this immaculate vineyard offers a great wine tasting selection. Visitors are invited to enter the wine tasting room and to indulge in a selection of food and wine pairings. Commutes from any of the surrounding beaches are effortless and quick, making it easy to get in on the live music and speciality nights that are often on offer.

Considered to be the ‘Reptile Capital of the World’, this fascinating reptile enclosure is sure to keep you busy all day long. For a nominal fee (which goes to the feeding and upkeep of the preserve), you’ll be able to experience reptiles in their own natural environments and see first-hand what exactly they get up to. Between mid-April to mid-October, you will be able to take in the wonder of a live feeding show. Watching these powerful creatures tackle their dinner is indeed a sight to behold.
