Only 54 kilometers (34 miles), a mere 41-minute commute away from the hustle and bustle of New York City, this is where you’ll get the quiet and safety yearned for when starting a family, as well as a close hop to the liveliest city of them all: New York, New York! Here are some great attractions that are less than 32 kilometers (20 miles) away from Nanuet:

Save the day and suggest a family trip to Lake Nanuet Park and Swimming Pool. For a day that memories are made of, whisk your family off to the lake and watch as the worries literally slip, slide away. At Lake Nanuet Park and Swimming Pool, you’ll be able to have a whale of a time swimming in the lake itself or you can opt to get your swimming on in the public swimming pool enclosed within the park’s surrounds. Lake Nanuet also comes complete with water slides to boot.

For those not keen on trying their aquatic skills out, there is a vast expanse of the 13 hectares (33.5 acres) of ground, including ballfields, wherein visitors can explore and get sporty, all day long. Lake Nanuet Park and Swimming Pool is, of course, best explored on a hot summer’s day, for the aquatic experience, and with friends and family in-tow. This makes for an all-around pleasant day. Go for it.

Take a trip down memory lane, decor, fashion and drawl and all. Be sure to check out the Historic Hudson Valley, where actors take on the role of pioneers and historical figures, as they reenact days gone by and bring to our modern-day eyes a depiction of how things went down way back then. Be sure to take in the historic sites that remain in immaculate condition; from Kykuit: The Rockefeller Estate to Washington Irving’s Sunnyside to Phillipsburg Manor to the Union Church of Pocantico Hills and the Van Cortlandt Manor. You will be treated to a grand tour of the sites, as well as given any tidbit information along the way.

Be sure to check in with the Historic Hudson Valley staff as to which tours will be taken place on the day you would like to attend the tours. If needed check with them to ensure which tours and Historic sites have wheel check access, as there are a few tours which do not cater for wheelchairs. The terrain is quite tricky, having been kept as far as possible in their original state.

Don your favorite woolies, your ski pants and don’t forget those gloves, as you head on up to Mount Peter’s Ski Area, also known as ‘The Friendly One.’ Established in 1936, this (still) family-owned ski resort is the oldest ski area that is still in operation in New York State. Truth be told, Mount Peter’s still holds it’s fashionable allure, as it is quite the popular place to be during the colder months of the year.

Programs offered to visitors include a mountain school, trained according to PSIA and AASI guidelines and standards, racing programs and development groups. The area includes 14 trails, two ski lodges, and skiing available Monday through Saturday night. A visit to Mount Peter’s Ski Area should surely be a top pick when visiting in and around Nanuet, NY during the bitter cold Winter.
