A city adorned with eye-popping terracotta-colored brick buildings, Toulouse is whimsically referred to as The Pink City. Nestled along the broad Garonne River, Toulouse lies in the heart of southwestern France and offers a rich history filled with beautiful Gothic structures and compelling bygone-era artwork. But, Toulouse also has its presence firmly planted in the future. Toulouse is considered Europe’s aeronautical capital and home to the largest space center on the European continent. However, if you’re keen on focusing on Toulouse’s past, then one stop on your tour of this city should be the Canal De Brienne. To not miss a step in your exploration here’s a guide to Canal De Brienne, Toulouse.

Boat cruise

See the city from a different perspective by taking a wondrous boat cruise on Canal De Brienne. Both the River Garonne and Canal De Brienne boat tours operate from June to October. But be aware the tour guide may only speak French. Even if this is the case, a brochure in English is provided. Boat tours depart throughout the afternoon and speed along on a circular ride around the expansive River Garonne. You’ll pass a few of Toulouse’s most impressive and picturesque monuments.

This cruise will showcase the Port de l’Embouchure: the historic intersection between the Garonne, the Canal du Midi and of course, the Canal De Brienne. This excursion is a wonderful way to see the city. You’re sure to have a memorable trip cruising the canal.

Jog or stroll along the canal

Only stretching 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) in length, Canal De Brienne is less prominent than other canals in the city like Canal du Midi, yet it is still a tranquil piece of real estate worth exploring. A serene canal area replete with a green-shaded pathway alongside gently flowing water. The most intimate way to discover the canal is on foot. The path is a bit unpaved and scruffy in spots, so be careful while navigating.

Picture taking

With the colors changing every season, the scenic sights along the canal are a must-see. Breathtaking and certainly Instagram-worthy, the canal is - needless to say - photogenic. There’s a reason why Canal De Brienne is showcased in scenes of many films. You’ll surely have lots of beautiful snapshots to post to your Instagram account.
