First up we have The Black Labrador, perfect for the Anglophiles out there. This pub serves up classic British eats like fish and chips and shepherds pie. The pub has been around for 30 years and has a real cosy vibe, making it truly seem like a favourite local place for a pint in England. If the weather’s cool, you can sit by the fireplace, or head out into the patio on a nice day. And if you visit on a Friday or Saturday night, you can enjoy live jazz with your drink. And of course, your pup is welcome in the patio area.

2. The Buffalo Grille
The Buffalo Grille has been a Houston staple since 1984. They’ve got two locations in the city, and are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They serve up American favourites like burgers, chicken fingers, and pork chops, with an excellent range of sides. And if you’re a morning person, we highly recommend checking out their breakfast options. Reviewers rave about their big fluffy pancakes and the breakfast quesadilla. 4. Cecil's Pub
Cecil’s Pub has been around for about 30 years, and offers up not only local and important brews, but also pool tables, a dart room, and a jukebox to keep you entertained. If your dog will be joining you, there’s a patio where you can unwind in the sun with a pint. It’s a great place to go for some comfort food, as they serve up American dishes like pizza and steak. Backstreet Cafe has been a Houston staple for 35 years and is situated in a house built in the 1930s. It’s a cosy space, with dining areas spread across two floors. They’ve also got a popular patio where you’re welcome to bring your dog. Their menu reflects the diversity of Houston, featuring southern, Cajun, and Hispanic foods. They serve up lunch, dinner, and brunch, and are vegetarian-friendly. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, save room for dessert and indulge in chocolate espresso cake or butterscotch bread pudding.

6. Little Matt's
For a slice of Americana with a charitable attitude, head to Little Matt’s. They opened in 2009 with a mission to support the Texas Children’s Hospital and other charities which help children with cancer. The menu is chock full of classic American dishes, including a variety of burgers, as well as a decent selection of Tex-Max favourites. To delight kids and the kid in all of us, they even have a candy shop on site as well as a game room. And if you’ll be bringing Fido with you, there are picnic tables outside where you’re welcome to sit—they even provide water and treats for the pups.

7. Rudyard's
Up next we have Rudyard’s, another British-style pub. They’ve been around for 40 years, welcoming Houstonians from all walks of life. And your pup is welcome too—there’s a great patio to enjoy. Their menu features sandwiches, burgers, and a variety of mains including pasta dishes. They’ve got a decent selection for the vegetarians and vegans. We recommend saving room for dessert because they make their own ice cream, dishing out interesting flavours like turkey fat caramel and hot honey. They also offer up an excellent selection of events, including open mic nights and board game nights.

8. Ragin Cajun
Ragin Cajun was Houston’s first Cajun restaurant, getting its start in 1974 and now having two locations in the city. As you can imagine, they serve up Louisiana favourites including gumbo, jambalaya, and plenty of seafood dishes. Reviewers love both the food and the atmosphere. They’ve got an outdoor seating area, where your pooch is welcome to join you for a meal.

9. Becks Prime

Their dinner menu boasts grilled meats and a variety of seafood options, and plenty of margaritas to choose from. They’ve got an outdoor patio where you can enjoy a meal with your pup.
