Looking to explore Florence during your stay? Take a 15-minute walk from this hotel to Piazza Nicola Demidoff. The monument, by the renowned artist Lorenzo Bartolini, is dedicated to the Russian multimillionaire and philanthropist Nicola Demidoff and was commissioned by his sons in 1828. First, Bartolini made preparatory models in plaster and bronze (if you visit the Academy Museum in Florence, there you will find a plaster model).
At the top, you can see Nicola Demidoff with his son depicting the allegory of gratitude, and all around are four allegories relating to his life. You can find Siberia with a hammer and her son Pluto, a reference to the mineral industry on which the family made its fortune. There's also a depiction of charity - a woman feeding her son.

Tip from tour guide
Grand Hotel Minerva is only about a 20-minute drive from Villa Petraia. Located a few kilometers from Florence, the latter is one of the most beautiful Medici villas. You can visit it free of charge all year round.
The name Petraia comes from the stony ground. The Villa has existed since the 14th century but owes its exterior and garden to Ferdinando I de Medici, whose commissions of the reconstruction began in the 16th century. The interior, on the other hand, presents the typical appearance of the 19th century when the beautiful Rosina, the lover of the King of Italy, Victor Emmanuel II, lived in the villa. The king himself spent a lot of time here. Inside, there's also a spectacular courtyard decorated with frescoes from the 16th and 17th centuries with Medici figures such as popes, Catherine de Medici, and Cosimo I, along with the important events. The game room with billiard tables and some original games and pastimes is very interesting. In some rooms, you can admire the 16th-century original bronze sculptures by Tribolo, Ammannati, and Giambologna such as Hercules choking Antaeus or the beautiful Venus.
To visit the villa, you must come at certain times.
From April to September: Tue - Sun: 9:30 am, 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 2 pm, 3 pm, 4 pm, 5 pm (closed on Monday) Garden: 8:30 am - 6:30 pm
From November to March, the opening hours are reduced.
To get here, you can visit Santa Maria Novella station, take the bus to Via Sestese or Castello, or take the train to Castello. In both cases, you will have to walk a little. If you're arriving by car, you can enjoy free parking.

It is centrally located and just a few minutes’ walk to many of Florence’s attractions. This boutique hotel offers daily complimentary breakfasts, free WIFI, and complimentary afternoon tea to rejuvenate guests from a busy morning of sightseeing tours.
Tip from tour guide
Less than a 10-minute drive from this property, you can find a very typical angle of Florence: the arch or vault of San Pierino overlooking Piazza San Pier Maggiore. I like to stop at this lively, historic place and eat at one of the restaurants, such as I Ghibellini, Osteria Antica Casa Torre, Antico Noè, or Ristorante Mastro Ciliegia. Under the vault is the legendary Eby's, which offers the most original cocktails in the city center.
The vault is said to have been part of the 12th-century city wall compound. It actually has something magical. In the Piazza, there is another arch enveloped in the palaces, the remains of the old church of San Piero Maggiore, after which the district of the city is named.

Ask for a room with a balcony for the ultimate experience. Additionally, the hotel is within walking distance to most attractions.
Tip from tour guide
History buffs will be excited to know that this hotel is less than a 10-minute walk from Bargello National Museum. Did you know that the courtyard of today's Bargello used to be a place of torture and executions? On 30th November 1786, the first abolition of the death penalty in European history took place. Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo, ruler of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, abolished not only capital punishment but also ordered the destruction of all means of execution in Tuscany.
