De Rollende Keukens meaning “rolling kitchens”, is the biggest food festival that happens every year in the month of May for four days in Amsterdam. During this food festival, you’ll find loads of food trucks, beer tents and big stages playing live music. De Rollende Keukens becomes like a large open-air restaurant. But do try and get there early because the crowds can be massive.

2. Nieuwmarkt Market

The Niewmarkt has been alive as an Amsterdam market since the 1700s. Farmers still come here to sell organic produce in the main square of the market on Saturdays. From Monday to Friday you’ll find only a few stalls selling fruits, vegetables, cheese, flowers and the like. However, both Saturday and Sundays (from May to November) are a good time to visit the market. The weekend market is a buyer’s paradise. You’ll find food, jewelry, antiques, cosmetics, clothes, craft material and anything and everything that you’re looking for. Nieuwmarket also hosts a number of events and activities all year round.

Even though it is advisable that you go in the morning to avoid the crowd but don’t head out too early because it starts only at 9 am in the morning. Foodhallen is in Den Hallen, which is just next to the Ten Katemarkt. This indoor market has a proper seating arrangement with a large island bar around which up to 20 food stalls hover. The stalls serve different varieties of food, including sushi rolls, wood-fired pizzas, Vietnamese rolls, Greek meze, burgers and more. There are other specialty bars around the area and also a seating area upstairs that affords a good view of the entire place.

It mainly takes place in Frankendael (every last Sunday of the month) and in Amstelpark (every second Sunday of the month).
