After descending upon scenic Goa to explore it’s charming fishing villages and tropical spice plantations, travel along the coast in search of breathtaking beaches. Take time to watch talented kite surfers perform incredible aerial stunts while paddleboarding across the Arabian Sea. Visit one of the numerous beaches to sunbathe under the Goan sunshine and take time to locate a beachfront restaurant and indulge in freshly caught seafood specialties. Please check out this guide to Galgibaga Beach, Goa to experience the pristine beauty of this secluded beach oasis with golden brown sand as far as the eye can see.

Things to do/Highlights

While vacationing in southern Goa to experience the naturally amazing beaches, the Arabian Sea, and the small villages, stop by Galgibaga Beach. This hidden oasis is perfect for long, romantic walks on the shore, picnics, stargazing, and watching turtles scramble ashore.

Sunbathing

Enjoy complete tranquillity in seclusion since this beach is virtually untouched by commercial activity except for local fisherman and one beach resort. Sit under one of the coconut palms to experience the salty sea breeze flowing through the fronds in the warm sunshine.

Swimming

Although there are lifeguard towers to help keep visitors safe, be cautious when entering the water since the Arabian Sea can be quite rough. During monsoon season, the waters are definitely too powerful to venture out into, so bear this in mind.

See the Olive Ridley turtles

Galgibaga Beach is one of the nesting grounds of Olive Ridley turtles in Goa. Venture over to the north end of the beach during the evening to witness the sea turtles catching the waves to come ashore to nest. Observe them as they scramble to safety under the evening sky.

What to eat

Upon arriving at Galgibaga Beach, you will discover that there are very few places to grab a bite to eat. There are a few stands on the beach, however, if you’re making a beach day, do note that there are only a few restaurants nearby due to the beach being designated as a sanctuary for the Olive Ridley Turtles. The following are located on Galgibaga Beach Road.

Surya's Beach Cafe

Sit back and prepare to experience a sumptuous seafood feast of Goan crabs, mussels, clams, and prawns under the Indian sun. Indulge in giant prawns soaked in garlic butter sauce while watching turtles race towards the surf near sunset.

Holy Turtle

Savour red snapper accompanied by a colourful assortment of peppers, beans, fries, and carrots while dining with your feet in the sand. Enjoy captivating sunsets over the Arabian Sea while dining on a succulent seafood platter of freshly caught kingfish, squid, mackerel, and prawns. Holy Turtle serves delicious beachfront breakfast, lunch, and dinner specials to the visitors who come to experience the beauty and seclusion of the beach.

Travelers tips

Since Galgibaga Beach is such a hideaway nature retreat with basically a handful of tourists and locals, there aren’t too many amenities. Currently, there is a highway being built that will increase traffic and, in all likelihood, result in more resorts being built. Now is the time to check out this secret, untouched getaway before it becomes overrun with crowds. Please refer to the following tips to make for a safe and pleasant visit to this sandy beach.

Weather

Due to the dangerous undercurrents and extremely poor weather conditions during monsoon season, the best time to visit the beach is from October to March.

Locate prime spots for turtle sightings

While visiting the never-ending stretch of golden sand beach during the day, take time to locate the areas where turtles come to shore. When the sun begins to go down, venture out to spot the adorable creatures scrambling along the sand to their nests.

Amenities

There are a few lifeguard towers sprinkled along the beach to help keep visitors safe during their visit. Keep shaded by planting your beach chair or mat under one of the regal coconut palms and pine trees lining the spectacularly serene Galgibaga Beach.

Drive

Rent a scooter for solo travel to Galgibaga Beach, or a car to transport a group of travellers. For visitors staying in Palolem, take the Margaon-Karwar highway for easy travel to this pristine beach destination. If you prefer a scenic route, try crossing the narrow bridge overlooking the river to enjoy views of the lush forest and villages.

Taxi

Call a taxi from your accommodations to travel to Galgibaga Beach and visit the turtle preservation sites and golden sands accented by swaying coconut palm trees. After spending some time sunbathing and walking along the clean shore, wander over to a nearby restaurant to have staff call a taxi for your return trip. They’ll be more than happy to assist.
