A stunning national park of five picturesque coastal villages sitting on dark, craggy cliffs along the edge of the brilliant azure waters of Ligurian Sea, Cinque Terre is as gorgeous as it is interesting. From south to north, this province comprises the villages of Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso, each with its own charm and persona. So, where to stay in this beautiful part of the Italian Riviera? The area has no branded hotel chain, but the beauty of exploring this spectacular coastline is staying at vacation rentals—or affittacameres (rooms for rent), as they are called. Here are the best hostels in and near Cinque Terre, Italy.

Traveler's tips

Milena

Milena

Cinque Terre is made up of incredible towns. Monterosso has the best beach and flat terrain, making it ideal for families or beach lovers. Vernazza offers a charming piazza where you can enjoy an aperitivo or gelato. Corniglia is less accessible, requiring a hike or a bus ride up, but it offers unique views. Manarola and Riomaggiore are known for their romantic vibes, incredible views, and stunning sunsets.

The Blue Trail, or coastal path, connects all five towns and offers breathtaking views. It’s not an easy hike, especially in the summer heat, so bring proper gear, water, and sunscreen. The shorter Lovers' Path between Riomaggiore and Manarola is more manageable and allows you to enjoy a hike without overexerting yourself. The towns are small, with lots of steps and narrow paths. Avoid heavy luggage—it’s not practical. A backpack or small bag is the best choice.
