If you're looking for food joints to check out, I encourage you to check out the ones surrounding the University of Santo Tomas. You can reach UST easily via tricycle, or you can walk from the hotel. The streets and alleys of Dapitan and Padre Noval are filled with fast food establishments, hole-in-the-wall eateries, and restaurants. While I haven't hung out in the area since my days as a student there, I can certainly vouch for the area's diversity when it comes to epicurean adventures.

One of the more recent additions to Manila Bay's Baywalk area is the dolomite beach. My own feelings regarding its creation aside, the area does make for a great place to view the sunset without needing to book a cruise. But don't expect you'll be able to swim here like any regular beach. Manila Bay's water is still very polluted and needs years of rehabilitation. Even when I'm just passing through the area, the smell of the water on warm days stings my eyes and nose. If hanging out at an artificial beach doesn't sit well with you, might I suggest an afternoon at Manila Ocean Park instead? It's just past Rizal Park and offers a family-friendly educational experience.

One of the famous hotels in Manila, this landmark, historical hotel became the official residence of General Douglas MacArthur, and has hosted many luminaries and celebrities ever since. Had great memories with my family eating at Café llang-llang, and most especially, I enjoyed their selections of cheese.

If bargain-hunting and haggling is more your thing, head west along Recto Avenue and you'll find Divisoria and Tutuban. I'm personally not a fan of big noisy crowds unless it's a concert, but the suffering is usually worth it since I can find awesome deals for clothes, especially if I need a certain article for a function such as a themed wedding. Once my friends and I have all we need, we grab lunch or dinner at one of the Chinese restaurants in Binondo. You're already in Chinatown, after all, so it would be a shame to miss out on an authentic and succulent Chinese meal.

Be sure to walk around Binondo (Manila's Chinatown) to enjoy a food crawl around the area. Many of Manila's oldest restaurants and popular eateries are in this district.  Ongpin Street features many vendors and delicacies. One of my personal recommendations is Sincerity Cafe and Restaurant. Their fried chicken is popular, and they've been serving food since the 1950s!

With the dizzying amount of restaurants in Chinatown, you won't be lacking for choices at all. When it comes to snacks, however, I suggest you grab the pastries available at Eng Bee Tin and at Lord Stow's. From Eng Bee Tin, my favorite product of theirs is the kundol hopia, a flaky pastry with a thick paste filling made with winter melon. Lord Stow's, on the other hand, has some of the best egg tarts you'll ever find in Metro Manila. It's not costly either, though I usually only buy their box of 4 when I come across their stall or store.

The Manila Bay area isn't a good place to swim, and I really wouldn't recommend attempting it unless you want to catch something dangerous. That said, there are plenty of other sources of fun for me to find in this part of Manila. SM By The Bay is a baywalk area with a mini amusement park. I've tried the bay boat ride there, which took me on a short cruise along the area. You'll have to time the ride well though; when I tried it, it was nighttime so the scenery was more about the city lights than the sea. Though I can't recall the exact location, there are bicycle and scooter rentals also offered if you'd like to get some exercise or would like to check out what's in the vicinity.

I have been to Conrad Manila with my family a couple of times, and we often walk around the on-site mall S Maison, which is very modern and luxurious. We had a family lunch at Texas Roadhouse located at the mall. Their steaks are great, so you should definitely try them out. On occasion, we've also had a few family dinners at Brasserie on 3, located on the upper floor of the hotel. It has a delicious buffet and a terrace with a view of the bay.

I've visited New World Makati with my family, and we've had occasional family lunches at Café 1228, located on the ground floor. They have a big buffet (I always enjoy their pasta section, where they cook your choice of pasta on the spot, so you can enjoy it while it's hot). They have a huge modern lobby, which looks really nice. We've sat here to sit and relax, while also having some photo sessions.
