If you're looking for food joints to check out, I encourage you to check out the ones surrounding the University of Santo Tomas. You can reach UST easily via tricycle, or you can walk from the hotel. The streets and alleys of Dapitan and Padre Noval are filled with fast food establishments, hole-in-the-wall eateries, and restaurants. While I haven't hung out in the area since my days as a student there, I can certainly vouch for the area's diversity when it comes to epicurean adventures.

One of the more recent additions to Manila Bay's Baywalk area is the dolomite beach. My own feelings regarding its creation aside, the area does make for a great place to view the sunset without needing to book a cruise. But don't expect you'll be able to swim here like any regular beach. Manila Bay's water is still very polluted and needs years of rehabilitation. Even when I'm just passing through the area, the smell of the water on warm days stings my eyes and nose. If hanging out at an artificial beach doesn't sit well with you, might I suggest an afternoon at Manila Ocean Park instead? It's just past Rizal Park and offers a family-friendly educational experience.

One of the famous hotels in Manila, this landmark, historical hotel became the official residence of General Douglas MacArthur, and has hosted many luminaries and celebrities ever since. Had great memories with my family eating at Café llang-llang, and most especially, I enjoyed their selections of cheese.

If bargain-hunting and haggling is more your thing, head west along Recto Avenue and you'll find Divisoria and Tutuban. I'm personally not a fan of big noisy crowds unless it's a concert, but the suffering is usually worth it since I can find awesome deals for clothes, especially if I need a certain article for a function such as a themed wedding. Once my friends and I have all we need, we grab lunch or dinner at one of the Chinese restaurants in Binondo. You're already in Chinatown, after all, so it would be a shame to miss out on an authentic and succulent Chinese meal.
