Marco Polo Ortigas Manila is a really classy hotel, and the on-site restaurant, Cucina, has a lot of delicious offerings. In particular, I recommend the nasi goreng, which has a pretty generous serving. It has just the right amount of spice too!

Ortigas is a fast-moving business center during the day, and it can get congested with traffic during peak hours too, so try to avoid the after-work rush. If you're driving to the hotel, your best bet for parking is going through the valet service.

There are plenty of bars open late here where office workers go to destress after work. Because of the nightlife, lots of foreigners book hotels or Airbnbs in the area too. But during the weekends, Ortigas is pretty quiet and great for family lunches, especially because Emerald Avenue is closed to cars, and many families go on walks together.

Though Heritage Hotel's Casino Filipino has long since closed, there are plenty of options to satisfy your high-rolling fix. City of Dreams and Okada Manila are the two biggest ones nearby. I personally like Okada's oriental ambiance but I'm actually more familiar with the card and table games available at City of Dreams.

The Manila Hotel pool area

Manila Hotel has several on-site eateries, which can usually get pretty crowded. If you want a more intimate dining experience during your stay, order a meal from the pool bar. When I was here in June, the pool area was quiet and lit up with twinkling lights—giving our dinner a romantic feel. I'd also recommend ordering any of the tasty pizzas!

Manila Hotel has a very regal feel because of its architecture and interior design. You'll feel like you're in the colonial times. It's fitting because this part of Manila still resembles what it looked like when the Philippines was an American colony. There are many old buildings and museums here, so any lovers of history should definitely visit. You can even take kalesa (horse carriage) rides around.

Aside from the aforementioned cultural attractions, both Star City and Manila Zoo are also close to Diamond Hotel. Though the last time I visited Manila Zoo was long before its renovation, it was quite apparent by then that the place was in serious need of upgrades. Fortunately, the zoo was renovated and reopened back in 2021. The Star City theme park also went through a transformation, although this one was because it was rebuilt after a major blaze destroyed the previous park back in 2019. Both are open year-round and I recommend that you visit during non-holiday seasons if you want to avoid long lines and chaotic crowds.
