I once recommended it to a friend who had immediate business matters in the city proper and needed a decent but affordable place to while away the night. We enjoyed the Mexican dishes offered at Playa Papagayo Beach Inn. The in-house restaurant is open to outside guests who want to enjoy appetizing dishes while taking in the majestic views of the coastline. As for the price, the food was a bit expensive, but you get what you pay for in terms of taste and serving size.
Booking a stay here means staying close to all the thrills in the busy area of Barretto neighborhood of Olongapo. The property's entrance is along the main road, so it's quite hard to miss. Enjoying local delicacies is also easy as there are several restaurants just outside the hotel. The area is a favored destination for foreign tourists, particularly US Navy personnel seeking vibrant nightlife experiences. Magsaysay Drive is the core location for the celebration of the city's Mardi Gras, which is a festival I always look forward to attending because of the music, fun, and food. The celebration is commonly held during the last weekend of October. But if you're visiting at other times of the year, I guarantee that you won't get bored as the parade of restaurants and the bustling nightlife in the area will keep you engaged.
I'd also like to highlight that SM City Olongapo Downtown is just a 2-minute walk from the Inn!
Traveler's tips
While you're in the area, reserve a day to visit Inflatable Island! It has a floating inflatable obstacle course right off the beach that made us feel like contestants on the game show Wipeout. You don't even have to know how to swim because you'll be given a life vest! We bought a full-day pass to the park but only stayed for the morning because the course was more physically intense than we anticipated, and we were too tired to come back after lunch.
The area also has a covered dining area with Filipino food options and resting areas with umbrellas and bean bags if you don't want to swim. But do also note that you can't bring outside water or food in, so leave them in your hotel or car! Bring lots and lots of sunscreen too!
