Gyud Food Market at UP Food Hub Gyud Food Market at UP Food Hub Gyud Food Market at UP Food Hub
Quezon City ×

After getting your fill of the art, you'll definitely be hungry! There's a small café right outside the doors of the museum, but I recommend heading to one of the small food stalls across the street for even better (and cheaper) options. You'll find the best Filipino street foods, including kwek-kwek, fish balls, and kikiam. If you want more food options and don't mind a short walk or drive, go to the newly opened Gyud Food Market at UP Food Hub. It's a building with a lot of food stalls with fries, fruit shakes, Thai food, Japanese food, and a lot more.

UP is known as a walkable university because of its clean streets and many trees giving off lots of shade, so even if you don't have a car, you won't have any trouble getting around. Several jeepney routes converge here, so you can easily commute to and from the campus. Because most people here are students, the food is relatively cheap.

Frankie's New York Buffalo Wings Eastwood
Quezon City ×

Eastwood Richmonde Hotel is directly connected to Eastwood Mall and across the street from Eastwood City Walk, so you won't have to go far for shopping and dining options.

During the day, Eastwood is very family-friendly. There's a kiddie train in the mall and a cinema on the top floor. My younger cousins also love the bowling alley in City Walk because they have bumpers to make bowling easier.

At night, Eastwood becomes perfect for adults. I recommend Frankie's New York Buffalo Wings Eastwood for a tasty dinner. You might want to head here early though, as there's usually a long line of diners waiting to get in.  Follow up your meal with tasty cocktails in Salamangka or with a karaoke session in Paragon. The drinking places are open late, so you can spend the whole night with your friends.

The Manila Hotel pool area
Quezon City ×

Manila Hotel has several on-site eateries, which can usually get pretty crowded. If you want a more intimate dining experience during your stay, order a meal from the pool bar. When I was here in June, the pool area was quiet and lit up with twinkling lights—giving our dinner a romantic feel. I'd also recommend ordering any of the tasty pizzas!

Manila Hotel has a very regal feel because of its architecture and interior design. You'll feel like you're in the colonial times. It's fitting because this part of Manila still resembles what it looked like when the Philippines was an American colony. There are many old buildings and museums here, so any lovers of history should definitely visit. You can even take kalesa (horse carriage) rides around.

Ramen Nagi UP Academic Oval
Quezon City ×

If you book this property, you're well connected to Katipunan Avenue to U.P. Town Center by Ayala Malls, which has lots of shopping and dining options. I recommend Silantro Fil-Mex Cantina, which has the best beef nachos, and Ramen Nagi. There are a lot of residential subdivisions along Katipunan, so UPTC is usually full of families eating and shopping together.

If you want to spend less money, cross the footbridge to go to the beautiful University of the Philippines Diliman campus for serene walks around the UP Academic Oval. If you're here on a weekend, the oval is closed to vehicles, and there are plenty of people jogging or picnicking in the UP Sunken Garden. There are also small kiosks dotted around so you can try Filipino street food classics.

UP is open to all kinds of people, whether young students playing sports or elder alumni wanting to exercise. It's a great place to go if you want to immerse yourself in Quezon City culture. The campus is also historic because it was a battlefield during the Martial Law era, so you'll learn a lot about the country's history too!

Macarose Lan Kwai Speakeasy & Hong Kong Cuisine
Antipolo ×

Just a two-minute walk from Blue Residences is Macarose, an underrated bakery. It's in a small building right before Gate 1 of Ateneo de Manila University, so it's easy to overlook, but the cakes here are delicious! I order the special strawberry cake for my birthday every year because it's just that good. Be sure to order the special strawberry cake instead of the plain one for more flavor! It's not too sweet and has the perfect balance of tartness from the strawberries.

Another nearby favorite is Lan Kwai Speakeasy & Hong Kong Cuisine. It's a popular drinking spot among college students and is known for its fishbowl-sized drinks. The food is also excellent though. Try the Hainanese chicken rice bowl and the salt and pepper squid.

You can walk from Blue Residences to either one of these establishments. Right across the street is a jeepney terminal, so you can easily get rides to the rest of Katipunan, UP, and Commonwealth too. Since the condo is also near several schools, most of the residents are families or students and the restaurants in the area are great for those with smaller budgets.

Red Mango Paragon Family KTV Paeng's Eastwood Bowling and Billiards
Quezon City ×

There are so many entertaining things to do in this neighborhood! If you're going to Eastwood Mall, definitely stop by Red Mango for frozen yogurt. My favorite is the mango jubilee, which has mango slices, graham cracker dust, and caramel sauce. My friends and I also frequent Eastwood City Walk for fun activities, such as karaoke in Paragon Family KTV or bowling in Paeng's Eastwood Bowling and Billiards. You can also try the escape rooms in Mystery Manila.

Because Eastwood has so many things to do, it's a favorite staycation location for locals. A lot of foreigners also like to stay here because there are some luxury hotels or rental units. While the food/activities aren't super expensive, there are some pricey restaurants here, so choose well depending on your budget.

If you get hungry while exploring Akihabara, definitely stop by Gansozushi, a hole-in-the-wall conveyor belt sushi restaurant. There may be a line to get in because the place is quite small, but the wait will definitely be worth it! Each plate of nigiri costs less than 300 JPY (2.02 USD). I highly recommend the torched shrimp nigiri with cream cheese and Japanese mayo. I've never had shrimp so fresh before! You'll also have unlimited water and tea here.

Aquatopia Tiramisu ice cream sandwich Chai churro
Tokyo ×

Wear your comfiest shoes when you visit Tokyo DisneySea because this sprawling park has tons to offer. I was there from opening to closing and didn't even get to see the entire place. Definitely be prepared to wait in line because the park is fairly crowded, especially for more well-known rides such as Toy Story Mania! and Tower of Terror. Luckily, you can download the mobile app so you can see a map of all the attractions and the estimated wait times for each one. An underrated ride to try is Aquatopia. If you come during the summer, you're going to get splashed with cool water!

There's also a variety of eateries to try around the park, so be sure to take a break from walking to enjoy a tiramisu ice cream sandwich or a chai-flavored churro.

Meiji Jingu Consecrated Sake Barrels Torii Gate Meiji Shrine
Tokyo ×

Bring an umbrella and a bottle of water if you visit Meiji Shrine! It's a bit of a walk from the entrance gates to the actual shrine, and the heat may get to you. Also, be on the lookout for the Meiji Jingu Consecrated Sake Barrels and the Meiji Jingu Museum on the way.

Whenever you pass by the towering gates, be sure to take the outer paths instead of going through the middle, which is reserved for deities. By the shrine itself, you can pick up different amulets to keep you safe. I got one for sound mind and body!

Takeshita Street Strawberry Fetish Marion Crêpes
Tokyo ×

A great place to visit in Harajuku is Takeshita Street, a popular tourist spot with loads of food stalls, clothing stores, and gachapon stores, which are filled with vending machines dispensing capsule toys. This is one of the best places I went to in Tokyo. I loved the vibe and all the things to discover! There are so many tasty treats here too, but I recommend trying the candied fruits from Strawberry Fetish and one of the many delicious crepe options from Marion Crêpes.

Suica card
Tokyo ×

Tokyo has a great public train system, so expect to be traveling using the JR Yamanote Line a lot! It's best to pick up a Suica card, which you can add more credit to as needed. You can also use it as a payment method for some buses and convenience stores. If you still have credit by the end of your trip, you can return the card to JR East stations and redeem any remaining balance.

Cat Street The Matcha Tokyo
Tokyo ×

Between Harajuku and Shibuya lies Cat Street, which was a great find while I was on a search for vintage stores around Tokyo. This street is lined with secondhand stores selling items from international brands. In the area, you'll also find The Match Tokyo, a popular café with delicious matcha-flavored drinks and ice cream. I highly recommend the frozen matcha latte!

Shibuya Scramble Crossing Shibuya Scramble Crossing
Tokyo ×

Get a different view of Shibuya Scramble Crossing from Magnet by Shibuya 109. There's a set fee, which includes a drink, to enter the rooftop area overlooking the crossing. Seeing hordes of people cross the busy intersection is definitely a different experience from above. While this place isn't set as high above street level as other options, it's less crowded, so you'll have a better shot at gaining entrance.

The other side of the rooftop is an event place with live music, so you might want to check that out too!

Uniqlo
Tokyo ×

The Ginza district is also a popular shopping area, with huge brands such as Chanel and Lacoste having stores here. You'll also find the 12-story Uniqlo store in Ginza. Among the must-visit floors in this building is the 11th floor, which features many of the brand's collaborations with other companies. The graphic shirts are framed on the walls, making you feel like you're in an art gallery. If you're feeling parched after trying on so many clothes, a coffee shop awaits you on the 12th floor!
