Shadow Mountain Lake feels just like a paradise with its 1,346 acres (545 hectares) of serene waters and a stunning view of the Rocky Mountain. This man-made lake has an abundance of outdoor activities that people of all ages can take part in. There are thrilling pursuits including power boating, jet skiing, kayaking, sailing, and canoeing. There’s also something fun for those who prefer to just sit back and relax. Try your luck at fishing and maybe you’ll catch different kinds of trout and salmon. On the west shore of Shadow Mountain Lake, you can find Pine Beach Picnic Site, where you can unwind and enjoy your packed picnic while watching the sunset.

3. Lake San Cristobal

Lake San Cristobal is the second-largest natural lake in Colorado and it was formed about 700 years ago through a natural earthflow. This lake is rich with a variety of trout that you can try to catch from any of the public shores. Fishing boats are also available for rent from nearby local stores if you want to fish from the surface of the lake. You can also rent kayaks and canoes if you want to explore more of the waters.

4. Crater Lake

More than 7,000 years ago, Mount Mazama erupted and collapsed, creating America’s deepest lake. This lake, Crater Lake, is famous for its clear blue waters that directly comes from snow and rain. Tourists often come here to go hiking, camping, and sight-seeing. There’s a boat cruise that you can ride to help you see the different attractions within the area. Mount Mazama was a sacred symbol to the native Makalak people who believed that the eruption was due to an intense fight between the spirit of the sky and the spirit of the mountain. Many natives mourned the loss of the volcano, so even if you’re here to have fun or go sight-seeing, don’t forget the significance and history of the volcano.

Known for being one of Rocky Mountain National Park’s most magnificent lakes, Two Rivers Lake is an outdoor photographer’s biggest dream. Positioned in a shallow basin below the Continental Divide, you will have access to the spectacular sight of Notchtop Mountain, Little Matterhorn, and Flattop Mountain. Surrounded by a thick forest and a boulder field, there will be tons of scenery and greenery that you can capture without being disrupted by other people. There are no direct trails to Two Rivers Lake, making it a little tricky to find, but this works best for people who wish to be in solitude.

Lake Granby was created after the construction of Granby Dam and it is currently the largest storage reservoir belonging to the Colorado-Big Thompson Project. Granby is a popular destination for boaters, fishermen, and outdoor enthusiasts, due to its ample recreational activities. It is home to Lake Granby Yacht Club, which gives its members the chance to race with each other or just lounge on a boat. The lake is rich with trout and kokanee salmon all season long, keeping many fishermen booked and busy. There are around 260 camping sites on or near the Lake Granby shore, for those planning to stay for the night. With all sorts of things to do right here, come visit and have a fun-filled vacation.

Hop on over to Chasm Lake If you’re looking for the perfect hiking destination. You’ll start the hike at Longs Peak ranger station where you’ll find unique and interesting artifacts.
