English Point Marina is located at Silos Road, 80100 Mombasa, Kenya and is a contemporary development that was recently designed by Broadway Malyan and comprises a hotel, apartments, a restaurant, a jazz bar, a gym, a spa and a set of retail outlets. The entire complex is located on a four acre (1.6 hectare) beachfront site opposite the famous UNESCO World Heritage sites of Fort Jesus and the Mombasa Old Town. This place is in an absolutely scenic location and its design has “luxury” written all over it. Having recently visited The Medusa Restaurant, which is located within English Point Marina, I am thrilled to tell you about the fine-dining experience that it offers which exceeds expectations.

A modern complex with a minimalist design

The Medusa Restaurant is located within the hotel of the complex, which oozes of sophistication and exudes chic-ness. The foyer, corridor and lift leading to the restaurant are smart, stylish and sophisticated. There is a real minimalist modern design, which makes the hotel feel even more spacious. Being located on the third floor of the hotel also means that you have great views from the restaurant of parts of the development including the water feature in the entrance and the modern and crystal clean adjoining apartments and hotel rooms. The Medusa Restaurant is open to those that are residents, holidaymakers and visitors of English Point Marina and its operating hours are from 7.00 am – 10.00 pm.

An unusual and unique experience in Mombasa

The entrance to the restaurant, as you can see, has some quite quirky and playful artwork. This display is an introduction to the fact that your experience at The Medusa Restaurant is going to be quite unique and unusual; not necessarily something that Mombasa has offered before in this area.

The restaurant includes an indoor and outdoor seating area. The indoor seating area consists of comfortable sofas with plump pillows as well as modern armchairs and curved seats with circular glass tables. Additionally, there are square and rectangular tables covered with beautifully ironed tablecloths and all the required tableware including cutlery for each course. The outdoor seating area is smaller in comparison to the indoor seating area and includes more casual furniture, albeit that which is of light colours and enhances the minimal feel to the entire establishment.

Gorgeous gourmet menu offering delectable dishes

The Medusa Restaurant has a gorgeous gourmet menu and offers a rich variety of international cuisine. For example, you may wish to consider trying the creamy smoked butternut squash soup, which has vanilla extract and garlic croutons (costing 650 KSH/6 USD) or the potatoes and spinach croquettes, which are accompanied by a basil and beetroot mayonnaise (costing 350 KSH/3 USD). In addition, the penne Napolitano, which is made with delicious pasta in a vine ripened tomato, oregano and basil sauce (costing 750/7 USD) or the spinach and ricotta cannelloni (costing 850 KSH/ 8 USD) are recommended. In addition, the eggplant mille feuille, featured in the photograph, is recommended. It comprises diced ratatouille vegetables in a tomato fondue with garlic lemon emulsion (costing 850 KSH/8.22 USD). The food is delectable and delicate, shows finesse in its presentation and is accompanied by discrete, subtle and helpful service. If you’re not sure about a certain dish, you may even find that the chef will appear to gladly provide you with more details.

Follow a rich meal with the rich views from the marina

Following on from a deliciously rich meal, it is only right for you to enjoy a walk to take in the rich views that the English Point Marina has to offer. Walk along the marina and enjoy the refreshing breeze whilst taking in the sublime views of the UNESCO World Heritage sites that you can enjoy in the close vicinity. Pictures cannot really do justice to the astonishing beauty that can be experienced from the marina itself. The blue sky with little white clouds, the little historical buildings and the emerald waters in front of you create an unforgettable memory. I would definitely recommend that you enjoy the warmth of the sunrays and the cool African breeze whilst taking a walk after the meal that you experience at The Medusa Restaurant.

Early evening dinner is recommended

It is rare to find fine dining for a price that won’t take a large bite out of your bank account, so the Medusa Restaurant is a real surprise and is located within beautiful surroundings. The views of and from English Point Marina are exquisite and there really is nothing quite like this place on the island of Mombasa. The Medusa Restaurant, within English Point Marina has definitely made its place on the map and is a place to watch. Visitors are recommended to visit for an early dinner so that they can later take a little walk by the marina and enjoy the multiple colours of the Kenyan sky and the little lights in the Old Town as they flicker in the evening.
