Are you in Mombasa and feeling hot, hot, hot, hot? Well, you need somewhere to chill out, feel cool and relax, and I know the perfect place that can deliver this to the maximum — Aquadrom Yul’s! This spot is a popular hangout for not only locals but tourists too and it offers an abundance of ways in which you can cool down from the heat and I’m thrilled to tell you about it. Starting off with the location itself, the water sports club, the boutique, restaurant, club and ending with the ice cream parlour, you’re in for a treat and a splendid excursion if you continue reading this review.

Accessible via the street or beach

Located at Malindi Road, Mombasa, Kenya, PO Box 10286, Aquadrom Yul’s can be accessed from either its front and street entrance or beach entrance. If you’re staying at a hotel on the Bamburi Beach such as at Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort & Spa, Kenya Bay or Severin Sea Lodge then you may wish to throw off your flip flops and walk barefoot in the sand to the beach entrance of Acquadrom Yul’s.

If, however, the walk is a bit of a stretch for you or you simply fancy rocking up in style, then hop on Mombasa’s popular form of transport: the camel. You may find yourself feeling like African royalty as you sway with the camel and your body swings back and forth whilst you hold onto the saddle post for support. Having tried this a few times, I would recommend that you try it at least once!

Once you arrive to Aquadrom Yul’s, you will be checked by security, whether it be at the street facing or beach entrance. The location is extremely secure and you will feel safe there at all times.

Amazing water sports activities available

Whatever time of day you check-out Acquadrom Yul’s, there will be something happening in this buzzing environment. The look and feel of the whole place is very casual and cool; if you wear your shorts, jeans, sandals, shades and hat, then you will certainly fit in.

The water sports club is open from 8.30 am – 6.00 pm and it offers many activities including a 10 seat banana boat and jet skis! The staff are extremely professional and well trained. If you have any concerns and you communicate it to them early on, then they will do everything to make you feel more comfortable and confident, such as if it’s your first time on a jet ski! The price of the activities varies contingent on what you choose and you’re advised to check out their website for prices. As the water sports club is well known and popular, I would recommend that if you are interested in booking, you visit early in the morning or be prepared to join a waiting queue.

If you’re looking to buy some souvenirs, swimwear or some unusual and unique European style clothes then you may wish to consider visiting Heike’s boutique. It is open from 9.00 am – 5.00 pm. If you’re keen for a beach party experience, then Aquadrom Yul’s has a vibrant clubbing scene and a regular Saturday night party from 10.30 pm – 5.30 am. If you’re curious to see what the nightlife is like, check out the photos on Aquadrom Yul’s website.

Creamy and sensational ice creams all day

Naturally, with all the water sports, shopping and partying that you’re going to be doing at Aquadrom Yul’s, you’re most certainly going to feel a bit peckish at the very least. Luckily, Aquadrom Yul’s has a restaurant that serves up scrumptious continental dishes and you’re urged to visit for lunch, snacks and/or dinner. The seating arrangements and furnishings vary but are all rather comfortable and overlook the beach and waterfront. There are certain parts of the restaurant that are more enclosed so you will definitely get shade whilst others have umbrellas to give you some shade and ensure that you are able to fully enjoy the gorgeous view in front of you.

Whilst the food served is top notch, the real stand out for me has to be the ice cream itself as it is simply one of the best in Mombasa. Yul, who is the owner of Aquadrom Yul’s, has himself been trained by an Italian ice cream connoisseur and is able to make more than 60 different flavours of ice cream that includes no eggs, stabilisers or anything artificial! All ingredients are imported from Italy to create the most creamy and sensationally flavoured treats for your palate! It should be noted, however, that on display there are only 20 flavours per day and ice cream is served from 12.00 pm – 11.00 pm.

Only got a few hours to spare?

Whilst I believe it would be fantastic for you to go and spend all day and night at Aquadrom Yul’s as it really is a fabulous environment, I appreciate that you may be strapped for time, especially if you’re a tourist. As a result, my recommendation to you would be to utilise Aquadrom Yul’s for its water sports activities and stop over for some ice cream. The ice cream sundaes are mouthwatering and the Coppa Mango, which is mixed ice cream, mango, fresh cream and mango sauce (730 KSH/7 USD) is recommended. In addition, the Coppa Crocante, made of ice cream, caramelized nuts, fresh cream and caramel sauce (750 KSH/7 USD) is also advised. Go on, you know you want to try these sundaes, so what are you waiting for?
