Amsterdam, a city with 165 canals and over 1200 bridges; people aren’t wrong when they call this city the Venice of the North. It has a number of museums, and just too many coffee shops. And now that the city has got a higher rank amongst the global clubbing locations, it’s common to notice a high number of nightclubs. But contrary to belief, you would be surprised to know that not every clubhouse is a nightclub - ‘technically’; it’s not very easy to locate a good nightclub that stays open after midnight. Some mainstream concert halls should be an answer to this problem - like AFAS Live and Ziggo Dome, but it is hard to ask for a full-month agenda from concert venues. Hence, we are giving you an index of the best nightclubs in Amsterdam. Stay with us on this page, and discover the underground clubbing scene of this city with Trip101.

Centrally located in the city, WesterUni is a good start for this list; the place doesn’t have fancy features, it’s just a plain straightforward nightclub. While most nightclub owners have to spend money to have the industry-style interiors, such raw looks come naturally at this club. This massive site is the remains of the Westergasfabriek, a former gas work factory. Since the place is huge you can expect multiple concerts in a month, check the ‘agenda’ page at their website to have the full information. WesterUnie also serves delicious food and drinks.

2. The Cave Rock Club
Care about the hard rock genre, then consider this nightclub; The Cave Rock Club is one of the finest heavy metal bars in the city. It’s a super friendly club and doesn’t ask for any cover charges, the drinks are however slightly expensive here but those beers would be totally worth it. And it isn’t limited to just beers, even though it’s a small pub, they serve hard liquors as well. Playing loud is a routine here, plus they also hold at least one small scale concert every week. This little club deserves a visit if you’re walking this side during their business hours.

Back to the industrial corners of the city, we have one special recommendation for you. This place has acquired 24 hours running licensing now, so it’s more than a ‘night’ club. You will usually see weekend events to last till the following afternoon, plus they even organize 50-hour musical marathons on some days. The musical genre is mostly heavy metal, techno, EDM. Warehouse Elementenstraat is another massive industrial décor shelter that can accommodate about 2500 people inside its four halls.

4. Doka
This friendly nightclub has a cool story. It opened temporarily when this building (Volks Hotel) was being redesigned; the spot became popular, and they made it permanent. Today, Doka runs at the basement of this hotel but opens only on the weekends. By the way, this is a club that is more visited by foreigners than the locals. They also tend to do things differently. As we said they are friendly, the bartender would gently ask you to try something that you have never tried. Take our advice and let them surprise you, this will be your best experience. For the entertainment part, you will get DJ performances.

5. Bitterzoet

Probably the best music club in the middle of the city, as it is placed at a walking distance from the Amsterdam Central Station. Bitterzoet is a small nightclub on the ground level of a two-story building. The upper floor comprises a bar, smoking lounges, and also two gaming consoles; so it’s better to plan an extended evening here. This club also doesn’t follow a plain routine, the events take place as per their agenda. The ticket pricing varies, the weekend shows are usually higher priced. However the scenario is not that bad as it seems here; people could get drink passes or maybe band t-shirts bundled with the admission, expect a freebie if the entry fee looks higher.

6. Claire
Want to visit a nightclub but do not have fashionable clothing, that’s okay because Claire is there for you. Started in the year 2016, this is one of the best casual nightclubs of Amsterdam. The location is sweet too, it is situated right in the city center next to the Rembrandt Square. And Claire is not just kind to the guests, it also acts as a nursery for the amateur DJs. First-class DJs come here too, actually quite often. This nightclub has a great speaker system but even if someone is not too keen for the beats, they can relax at the stand or maybe in the smoking area.

7. Club Lite
There aren’t many nightclubs where you can totally have freedom of what you’re wearing or how well are you dancing. Then there are clubs which will throw you out for wearing flip-flops, but guess what, Club Lite will still welcome even if you’re dancing barefoot. It’s a type of nightclub where you can totally let loose. Technically, it’s not just a nightclub, they receive more crowd in the morning for Sahaja-Yoga sessions than they get in the nights. We would say that you shouldn’t miss out this opportunity; because every other club were similar in a way or another, this would be an exceptional experience.

8. Club YOLO Amsterdam
Please note, YOLO is located next to the gay district but it’s not an absolutely gay venue. Take any orientation and this club will remain unprejudiced to you; in other words, straights are also welcome. As you might already know the acronym ‘You Only Live Once’, no one will be judgmental here in this club. The staff and crowd are open-minded, so behave candidly and enjoy with your mates or friendly strangers. This place used to ask cover charges previously, but now you have to pay only if you’re coming after midnight. And that token amount shall make up for the coat charges and you will be given complimentary drinks of your choice.

9. CLUB ÈRR°

This nightclub defines the true definition of resident DJs because the party never stops at Club ÈRR°. Celebrate the party marathons and also their after-parties as there is no closing time. Enter the club tonight and leave after several days; seems comical but it’s possible with this place. The club has a kitchen bar, washrooms, and even a separate room to take naps. Everything is inexpensive and they don’t have strict house-rules, it is a one-of-a-kind club in Amsterdam.
