When you think of Hawaii, many people think of a beach resort vacation. However, some people view Hawaii as a place to shop like crazy, especially at a shopping mall like Ala Moana Center. On November 12th 2015, this already enormous shopping center expanded its area to include many stores that are new to Hawaii. From sweet Hawaiian cookies, to expensive brand bags, Ala Moana Center is a shopping heaven for those tourists who are ready to spend a lot of money!

Located in Ala Moana, Ala Moana Center is a busy shopping center, which is loved by locals and tourists. Its close proximity to Waikiki allows travelers to take a shuttle bus from the hotels to this gigantic mall. With the expansion of this mall, now there are 11,000 parking spots available, as well as the option for valet parking, costing only 5 USD USD.

The new section, the Ewa wing, which just opened on November 12th 2015, was much anticipated by locals as it includes many stores that are new to Hawaii. From Magnolia Bakery, which is based in New York City and famous for its colorful cupcakes, to Agent Provocateur, a luxurious sexy lingerie store from England, there are many brand new stores, which make a trip to Ala Moana Center even more exciting than ever before!

Ala Moana Center has always been a popular tourist shopping destination for a long time, but with the expansion, it will for sure receive more interests from tourists, as well as locals. Even Bloomingdale’s opened its doors for the first time in Hawaii at Ala Moana Center, and people are enjoying more options to shop at this newly expanded shopping center.

On the first few days of the grand opening of the new section, many stores had special sales and events to welcome people to their stores. Bloomingdale’s even hosted a fashion show collaborating with the makeup store, Sephora, showcasing women’s dresses for this holiday season with beautiful models walking the catwalks.

Whenever people visit Ala Moana Center for the first time, they are simply surprised to find how large this shopping center is. However, the expansion has not been completed yet! On Nov 12th, not all the stores opened, thus there will be more stores opening their doors for the first time, or relocating from the original location from the same mall in the upcoming year.

Zara is one of the stores which will be coming soon. As well as Zara, MTOC will be opening in the spring of 2016, and Shirokiya will be moving from its current location in the summer of 2016 as well. Yes, the expansion of Ala Moana Center has just begun, and shopping at Ala Moana Center will be even more exciting in the coming year!

Free yoga classes, hula performance, and more!

As already indicated, Ala Moana Center is loved by both locals and tourists, so there are activities and events which everyone will benefit from. Something locals enjoy is the free yoga classes offered by Lululemon Athletica, which also moved to the new location in the Ewa wing. Lululemon offers free Sunday morning yoga classes weekly, and also offers free running practice weekly. These are especially enjoyed by the locals, but if you are visiting Hawaii and you are in the mood to do yoga or need a running partner, you can also benefit from this free class since the class is open to anybody.

Something targeted more for the visitors is the daily hula performance held on stage everyday at 1:00 pm. The stage is located in the center of the shopping center, and there are daily hula performances with occasional special events, such as a fashion show and an anime character show to entertain and welcome visitors to the shopping center, and Hawaii.

Who does not like limited editions? Everyone, right? Something which makes shopping at Ala Moana Center even more special, is finding items that are available only in Hawaii ! From Lupicia, LesPortsac, even to Lorna Jane, you might be lucky enough to find limited items that can only be purchased in Hawaii. Moreover, some stores even carry Ala Moana Center limited edition items, so you can never go wrong shopping at this incredible mall.

At Lorna Jane, a fashionable fitness appeal from Australia, there are Hawaiian limited edition palm tree printed sports bras and leggings that can only be purchased at this location. If you are one of those people who are picky about what you wear, and want to be original, you’re sure to find what you are looking for at Ala Moana Center.

At Ala Moana Center, a half day is definitely not enough to cover all the stores. If you enjoy shopping, you might want to spend a full day at Ala Moana Center, so that you can check out the brand new section of the mall, as well as the original section. There are food courts, restaurants, and cafes around the shopping center, so if you get tired, take a break at a café, recharge yourself, and go back shopping! If you get tired again you can always go and watch the hula performance, or step out of the shopping center to enjoy beach time at Ala Moana Beach Park, which is right across from the shopping center. At Ala Moana Center, you’ll find anything from souvenirs for your family and friends, or even a luxurious item to treat yourself with on your vacation.
