The city of Las Vegas has proclaimed itself “The Entertainment Capital of the World.” The name “Las Vegas” is Spanish for “The Meadows,” but everyone knows that the city, especially the areas on or near The Strip, is not a hamlet of rolling hills and trees. Vegas is situated on the floor of Mojave Desert. Yet, the subtropical desert climate is no deterrent to locals and tourists who flock to Vegas for shopping, entertainment, and gambling. Skateboarding is a hobby and sport best enjoyed in sunny places. Since the sun shines upon Vegas all year round, there is a thriving local skate community of colorful and diverse characters reflecting the city’s multicultural citizenry. Read on to learn more about the top skateparks in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Justice Myron E. Leavitt & Jaycee Skate Park is a concrete plaza with transition features, bank ramps, stairs, and ledges near the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles headquarters. The paint on the concrete was chosen to match the rest of the park, which was named after the late Justice Myron E. Leavitt, who coached baseball, football, and softball in the park. The plaza-style skatepark offers a reasonable challenge even to non-beginners. There’s plenty of open space for entry-level skateboarders who want to spend the day honing their stance and other essential skills such as rolling and tic tacking, pushing, and most importantly, stopping.
