After enjoying Spain’s beautiful beaches in summer, the winter season opens the best time of the year to go snowboarding and skiing. Located in the Pyrenees of Spain, the Baqueira-Beret ski area covers two areas – the Aran Valley (Val d’Aran) and the bordering Aneu Valleys (Valls d'Àneu). Both areas offer great snowboarding and skiing, as well as après-ski facilities in the form of restaurants and wine bars and a Museum of Cultural Heritage. A wide range of slopes is available here for any level of skill and classes are offered in snowboarding, downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, and heli-skiing.

Estacion de Esquí Puerto Navacerrada is located in the Guadarrama Mountains, in a mountain pass in the center of Spain. The Sierra de Guadarrama mountains run between Segovia and Madrid, making this the closest ski and snowboarding resort to both cities. The upper area features intermediate and difficult pistes, while the lower area is suitable for beginners. Each piste is well-sheltered and runs through pine woods. The ski resort features equipment hire, a restaurant, café, a tourist office and healthcare services.

3. Sierra Nevada Ski Station, Andalucia

The Sierra Nevada Ski Station is located in Granada Province in Andalucia, Spain, and is the most southerly of its kind in Europe. The ski station is around a 30-minute drive from the center of historic Granada. Skiing, snowboarding and other winter sports are available on the northwestern Veleta slopes.

There are 124 available runs which are ideal for all levels of snowboarding and skiing. However, the ideal spot for snowboarding is the Superparque Sulayr, which runs for 165 meters (541 ft) with a 6-meter (20-ft) high half pipe. This family resort in Spain also features a snow park for children, classes for all skill levels, restaurants and equipment hire options.

Manzaneda is located in the Ourense province of Galicia, in northern Spain. The ski resort offers 6 ski lifts and 19 pistes, running over several acres of ski and snowboarding terrain. Manzaneda is ideally suited for snowboarders and beginner skiers, but does also offer terrain for intermediate and expert skiers. The resort offers a range of accommodation and après-ski options in the form of restaurants and bars.

Located in the Catalan Pyrenees of northeastern Spain, in the Girona Province of Catalunya, La Molina Ski Resort is the oldest of its kind in the country. The resort offers skiing and snowboarding for all ages and skill levels. The ski resort features 68 slopes, the largest superpipe in the Pyrenees and a snowpark.

Besides snowboarding and skiing, the park offers snowshoeing, snow-grooming and Segway-ing on snow. A wide selection of budget hotels and restaurants is available in La Molina, as well as the surrounding Cerdanya, Ripolles and Bergueda regions.

6. Candanchu Ski Resort, Huesca

Candanchu Ski Resort is located near Canfranc in the High Aragon mountains of the western Spanish Pyrenees, in Huesca, Aragon. The site was originally a military camp named Camp d’Anjou. The resort offers snowboarding and skiing with 50 km (31 mi) of slopes available and 21 ski lifts available to transport visitors.

This winter sports area is located at an elevation of between 1,514 meters (4,967 ft) and 2,236 meters (7,336 ft). The slopes are suitable for beginners, intermediate and expert snowboarders and skiers. A ski school is available at the resort, as well as the Barambán après-ski facilities.

7. Masella Ski Station, Girona

Masella Ski Station is located in La Cerdanya, Girona province in Catalunya and spreads over the north face of the Tosa d’Alp mountain. The resort is in a pine forest with pistes to suit all levels of skill. Green slopes at the base of the resort are ideal for beginners, while the upper slopes are perfect for intermediate and expert skiers and snowboarders. Children also have access to a fun snow garden.

The resort has a range of services, clustered at the point where the pistes meet, including a snowboarding school, ski school, café, restaurant, souvenir shops and healthcare services.

Valdezcaray Ski Station is the largest of its kind in La Rioja and is located at the foot of San Lorenzo, the highest peak in the area, close to the town of Ezcaray. The area is perfect for snowboarding and skiing in the winter months. Facilities at the resort include a restaurant, bar/café, ski and snowboard hire and ski schools. The ski station offers 22 km (14 mi) of slopes to suit all levels of skill.

9. Javalambre Ski Station - Lapiaz, Teruel

Said to be the best ski resort in Teruel province, Javalambre offers 15 km (9.3 mi) of slopes, served by 7 ski lifts. The slopes are ideal for snowboarding and skiing with easy and intermediate levels of skill. 14 km (8.7 mi) of slopes are suitable for beginners, while the remaining 1 km (0.6 mi) is ideal for intermediate snowboarders and skiers. A ski school is also available at the ski resort for beginners.

The winter sports area at Javalambre is located at an elevation of between 1,650 feet (503 m) and 2,000 feet (61 m). Relaxation and dining is available at a restaurant and café in the ski resort.

Formigal is a ski resort in Tena Valley, up in the Pyrenees mountains of Alto Aragon, Spain. The resort is set in the Aramon Formigal Panticosa ski area, covering four valleys in the region.
