Are you looking for an affordable but decent hotel in Ubud area, Bali? When you stay in a low cost hotel, you would expect lesser amenities, which is normal. After all, you get what you pay for, right? Well, that is not necessarily true! If you want to stay in a real Balinese dwelling located in a strategic location in Ubud, the affordable Ketut’s Place is the accommodation to choose!

Works of art at Ketut’s Place

Living in this hotel is like living in a temple area. At its entrance and in the garden area, you will find several Balinese shrines set in concrete. They were carved like a Hindu temple (a house with many carvings of Hindu Gods) with a hole for daily morning flower offerings (with incense). There are many statues of sacred figures in meditation in the hotel area and you will find some of these figurines in the small caves inside the cliff walls. Flower offerings are made to these statues for health and luck.

After checking in, it’s a good idea to stroll in the garden area. As you enter the garden area, you will notice the Balinese flavors. Aside from the Balinese decoration, you will find clusters of different tropical plants in pots that are placed among the trees. Interestingly, you will also see big tropical plants like banana and palm trees in pots. That’s what you will see in Ketut’s garden! In addition, you will hear the sound of flowing water from the garden’s fish pond. Look out for several big turtles at the pond too!

Great value at affordable prices!

Each room has a big terrace with a hanging lamp and a dining table. The golden entrance of the room designed with beautiful Balinese flower decorations will mesmerize you. This door is smaller than a conventional door. Don’t expect to enter or exit from the room with your spouse at the same time, as the door only fits one adult. However, don’t be mistaken by the door. This is a spacious room with a private bathroom!

It is interesting to note that the ceiling is made of ‘sesek’, which is thin layers of bamboo webbed and made into a ceiling. Almost every house in Bali in the past used sesek for ceilings and this is one of the very few hotels that still maintains the tradition. Windows are big and the outdoor view is gorgeous.

Standard rooms (42 USD) are located in the garden area and deluxe rooms (55 USD) in the back of the hotel with a view of river and forest. Rooms have air-conditioning and a mosquito net above the bed. It is common for the guests to open all windows in the morning for the outdoor view and cool morning air. Hence, it is inevitable to have a few mosquitoes. Wi-Fi is limited if accessed from the room and the hotel doesn’t provide TV. However, this is not a problem at all, as most people want to be away from electronics during their short getaway in Bali.

Ketut's restaurant

The rate also includes breakfast for 2! At night a hotel staff, will come to you to ask what kind of breakfast you want. You can have the breakfast in Ketut’s restaurant by the swimming pool or have it delivered to your room. They serve simple western food and tea or coffee. Their banana pancake is a must-order breakfast item. It’s fresh from the oven and served with butter and syrup. If you have lunch or dinner there, order their pork satay (barbecued skewered meat). It’s sweet and savory!

Convenient location

convenient location

Ketut’s Place is located in the center of Ubud where many Ubud’s main tourist attractions are within walking distance. It’s less than 30-minute walk to the famous monkey forest, Kecak dance theater (Balinese famous dance rituals), Ubud palace, art market and several museums. It is just 500 meters away from one of Ubud’s best suckling pig warungs, Ibu Ayu (warung: Indonesian street restaurant, Ibu: Mam). Suckling pig, or babi guling in local term, is barbecued pig, served with rice. Come here for lunch or dinner and this is probably the most savory and tender pork you will eat!

Organize your activities

Is there any more facilities about this fantastic hotel? Yes! This hotel will also organize your travel needs. They provide return airport transfers, transportation to various attractions around Bali and performance tickets (charges apply). These amenities are what you will get here for less than 60 USD.
