His subject for this piece, Herwarth Walden was the founder of “Der Sturm,” an expressionist art magazine and one of the most important promoters of avant-garde art in Germany in the early 20th century. This alley boasts ever-changing street art on every inch, an alternative book store and gallery up graffiti-covered stairs, an independent cinema and bar, and an underground theatre where the performers are monster sculptures. Plus, there are two deeply meaningful museums: one on Anne Frank and another on Otto Weidt, the Berlin man who risked his life to save Jews during the Nazi era. This is one of the most special places in Berlin! Many people call it Dead Chicken Alley for the artist collective who took over the decrepit building in the 90s and turned it into something magical, but its real name is Haus Schwarzenberg.

The Bärrenbrunnen—Bears Fountain—is a cute yet interesting monument located across from the German Foreign Ministry. The statue, designed by Austro-Hungrian-German artist Hugo Lederer, was inaugurated in 1928. It celebrates the 1920 Greater Berlin Act, the new municipality law that was the manifestation of the old power of the Prussian state, and established Berlin as a much bigger German capital. The monument was destroyed in the Second World War and was rebuilt by artist W. Sutkowski in 1958.
