Atlanta is the historical and cultural capital city of Georgia, so it stands to reason that it offers a booming nightlife. This includes but is not limited to: live jazz and blues music, a variety of theater and stage performances, authentic pubs, clubs, bars, and brews, and the timeless tradition of karaoke. No matter where you are in the city, for a good time all you have to do is go out on the town.
1. The Basement Theatre
The Basement Theatre is most well known for their unique improv comedy shows—and they’ve been doing it for thirteen years. Their shows range from family friendly shows to shows considered “rated R,” and shows take place every Friday and Saturday. (And if you were wondering, yes there is a concession stand.) Tickets for adults are usually 12 USD, so if you’re looking for a night of laughter and watching people make stuff up, just head to The Basement.

2. Prove your karaoke skills
Editor's Note: There's no photo available at the time of writing
10 High is located in the basement of the Dark Horse Tavern, and they have karaoke nights every day except Sunday—and there’s no cover charge. 10 High usually opens at 9:00pm, and on Fridays and Saturdays there might be some live musical entertainment. Karaoke (sometimes “metalsome karaoke,” sometimes “soul karaoke”) starts at 10:30pm; if you want a drink, the Dark Horse Tavern is right upstairs.

3. The Wrecking Bar
Housed in what was once the Victorian-style home of Victor H. Kriegshaber, The Wrecking Bar is an award-winning brewpub that serves specialty beers (which they brew in-house) and delicious craft pub food. The building has a long history, going from being a private home, to a church, to a dance studio, to an antique shop, and finally to the brewpub it is today. They have about twenty original beers, which they serve on a rotating basis to mix it up. Aside from the brewpub area, there are a few other rooms for guests to hang out in or reserve for private parties.

Located inside the Sheraton hotel, Fandangles is known for its good food and stylish and fun atmosphere. Their menu has a variety of different options, and items like their Grown-up Grilled Cheese, turkey burger, scallops, and other seafood get rave reviews. Sit in booths covered with red-and-white striped upholstery, enjoy the mirrors on the walls, and drink out of curved drinking glasses; some tables even have a nice view of the Sheraton’s pool.

5. Go totally crazy at the Koo Koo Room
A nighttime hotspot, this upscale lounge-style night club under Midtown streets offers an atmosphere where you can “let loose.” DJs play the night away while guests partake in the Koo Koo Room’s exclusive bottle service and dimly but colorfully lit bar and seating areas. If you want to reserve VIP, I do believe they have a dress code, so be sure to check their website for more information. The Koo Koo Room is open from 10:30pm to 2:30am.

So no matter what time of year you’re in town, be sure to check their schedule of shows—you won’t want to miss what they do next!

Willie’s is open every day except Sunday, and there’s live music every night; cover charges range from 3 USD to 15 USD depending on the act, but you can bet it’s always a good time at Blind Willie’s.

8. Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse
The Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse certainly lives up to its name; it’s both a tavern and a theater! Their menu features café food, and they offer a variety of ales and beers. And, of course, the Atlanta Shakespeare Company performs plays by Shakespeare. Designed to resemble the architecture of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, it’s easy to get caught up in the Renaissance atmosphere of this place—they even hand-make their costumes. If you’re looking for a truly unique and fun night, look no further than the Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse—and be sure to check their website for show schedules.
