Horseshoe Lumber Company is basically the site of a sawmill that was established in the early 20th century. This mill was known to be one of the most modern lumber-manufacturing mills in the area. In 1929, the Conecuh River flooded the city of Andalusia and ruined the mill forever. Currently distinguished by a marker, this place is a very popular tourist attraction that is often visited by locals and tourists alike. While the mill is in ruins, you can walk inside and have a look at its architecture and structure.

2. Spend a nice sunny day at Andalusia Town Square

Andalusia Town Square is the main square that is located in the heart of the city. With brick sidewalks and gorgeous lampposts, the town square is home to Covington County Courthouse as well as Commercial Bank clock. Springdale is a beautiful and spacious house that was constructed by John G. Scherf in the 1930s. For those of you who may not know, John G. Scherf was the Mayor of Andalusia, Alabama, for four consecutive terms. This spacious home is located on 4 acres (1.5 hectares) of land and now is used as a venue for weddings, concerts, and various community events. Old First National Bank is a historical landmark in Andalusia, Alabama. It’s a six-storey building that was built in 1920 by Frank Lockwood. From a bank to an ice cream shop, this building has had many uses. It was known as the Timmerman Building, then eventually named after the bank that was inside the building. 7. Check out the pine forests at Conecuh National Forest

Be one with nature by visiting Conecuh National Forest. This forest is located in the southernmost part of Alabama and it covers about 340 square kilometers (131.2 square miles) of land. If you plan on visiting this forest, then you’ll be following a trail that was originally set by the Youth Conservative Corps. There are also a number of camping sites that you can choose from. In fact, there is a total of 75 campsites in the Conecuh National Forest. Do note that the sites are on a first-come-first-serve basis. Thus, be sure to arrive early to reserve your spot. Don’t worry though because most of these campsites are situated on the waterfront and woodlands. This makes it easier to set up your tents near areas where there is a water source.

14. Visit the exhibits at Three Notch Museum

The Three Notch Museum was first re-opened in 1987. However, its history dates all the way back to the early 1890s when the leaders of the city of Andalusia posted a prize worth USD 5,000 for the very first rail line to ever pass through the town. Three Notch Museum is named after the streets South Three Notch Street and East Three Notch Street. Currently, it is being operated by the Covington Historical Society. Nevertheless, this museum, because of its history, showcases the city’s railroad history. Some of the displays include old photographs, historic cameras, a bottle collection, various accessories, tools, and military memorabilia.
