1. Start your trip from the Cathedral of the Transfiguration
Standing beside the scenic River Amur, in the city of Khabarovsk, the Cathedral of the Transfiguration stands in glory. The white marble edifice is 96 meters (314 feet) high and glorified by its golden domes, featuring the typical architectural style of Russia and Ukraine. The cathedral has four golden domes, the center one being the grandest.
This traditional design resembles the work of the famous Russian architect Konstantin Thon. Built during 2001-2004, it is the third tallest church in Russia. The cathedral is located in a prime location of the city, from where the beauty of the Amur River can also be enjoyed.

2. Get down to City Beach
Just below the cathedral, on the River Promenade, the city beach is popular among the locals of the city. Being part of the riverfront, the beach is not really part of a real coast, but it is a very fun place to enjoy the sun and the nice weather of Khabarovsk. Taking a dip is possible, but you need to be careful of the strong current of the River Amur.
3. Visit the Khabarovsk Regional Museum
The Khabarovsk Regional Museum gives an excellent glimpse of the history of the city as well as Soviet history, as a whole. The museum is located in a brick building from 1894, which portrays the old architectural style of Russia.
Posters, black and white pictures, and audio clips, give you a clear glimpse into the past. This is the main museum of the city and the newest part of the building features information about the Amur River, where you can see living fish.

4. Hop over to the Far Eastern Museum of Art

Established in 1931, the Far Eastern Museum of Art hosts an impressive collection of local art. The museum is based in a building that used to be an officer’s club. There is a huge collection of Far Eastern Aboriginal art here, which is the prized possession of the museum. There is also an impressive collection of famous painters, like Rubens, Titian, and Rembrandt.
The work of local painters, like Alexander Benois, Apollinaris Vasnetsov, Mikhail Vrubel, Ivan Aivazovsky, Ilya Repin, Vasily Surikov, Ivan Shishkin, Isaak Levitan, are also kept on display. These impressive collections have been mostly gifted to the museum by the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, and the State Hermitage. Even if you are not an art lover, you can visit this museum for its impressive collection of art, which is indeed a visual treat.

5. Nature lover or not, you must visit the Arboretum

The Arboretum can be described as a museum of flora and was built in the year 1896. Around that time, there were dense forests of oak trees and elm trees in this area. In the 1930’s, it was turned into a botanical garden and now holds a collection of almost 300 plant species. Some of these plants are natives of faraway lands, like North America, the Himalayas, and Asia.

6. If you are craving more greenery, visit Dynamo Park

If your dose of greenery feels incomplete, head on over to Dynamo Park. This park is located in the center of the city and is a favorite of the local people, especially on a sunny day. The ponds in the middle of the park are some of the most important attractions here and make this ‘forest island’ more attractive. If you are hungry or thirsty, try the cafes inside the park.

7. Catch the Theatre of Musical Comedy

This movie theatre is an integral part of the culture of the city and was established in 1926. The theatre has 939 seats to entertain its spectators, as well as classrooms and workshops where you can learn more about theatre. The performances here are largely related to music, with a history of some award-winning performances. 8. Pay a visit to the Vsevolod Sysoyev Far Eastern Zoo

This zoo holds more than 40 species of fauna and will give you a glimpse of the unusual Far Eastern Leopard, along with the local Ussuriysk bears and tigers. The zoo is essentially very small and was established in the year 2002.
