Russia has a lot to offer tourists, from stunning natural beauty to amazing monasteries. You will also find several famous buildings in the country, such as St. Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow. There is no doubt that Russia is simply a winter haven. Every winter, tourists from multiple countries travel there to experience the chilly and breathtaking sceneries and experiences. It does get extremely cold but even if you are not a fan of cold, it will definitely be worth it. Moreover, everything is traditionally decorated and the cities light up at night. You will see ice-skating rinks, carnivals, and much more especially if you are travelling to Moscow or St. Petersburg. One thing I can say as a Russian myself is, Russia looks even better in the snow.. well, most of it. It’s a frozen paradise that is a must-visit. To make your experience in Russia in the winter even better, we have come up with a list of the best ski resorts in Russia in the article below. Read on to find out more.
Travel advisory for skiers in Russia:
The best time to visit Russia to experience snow is between November and March. Be prepared for sub-zero temperatures and pack accordingly.
There are ski equipment rental stores near every ski resort in Russia. Some of them are FAMSKI in Krasnaya Polyana, MM Ski Sport, which is part of the Ski Škola Kopaonik ski school, and Getski.Me in Estosadok.
We handpicked these listings carefully, considering (wherever possible) recent guest reviews, location, accommodation type, prices, availability of dates, decor, and access to ski slopes and equipment. The image galleries get refreshed with the latest updates regularly. They were last updated on June 28, 2025.

On this trip, you will not have time to sit around in your hotel - and I don’t think you’d even want to. The number of activities you can do there will blow your mind. Nearby, you have everything you need from cafes and restaurants to supermarkets. Enjoy ski-to-door access and get ski equipment and passes directly from the hotel. 2. BigWood, Kirovsk

Whether you are a beginner or you’ve mastered the sport, I think BigWood ski resort in Kirovsk is a great one. Skiing and snowboarding are affordable here so you can even try both! It’s not easy to pick the best time to come here as the weather might be foggy, too windy, or snowing too much, but February is a superb time to come there. And you will even be able to find hot beverages such as tea and coffee there to warm up!
What skiers are saying about their experience:
“Very good ski resort for a decent price. During peak season it’s better to come earlier, around 10 am - after lunch time bigger lines as many people come. Few cafes and a restaurant available with snacks, food, hot drinks. Coffee vending machines, enough space for changing the gear and leaving the stuff while skiing. Beautiful views from top, different level slopes - suitable for beginners and experienced skiers. Definitely a place to come back” - by Google reviewer, Sergey Kasyanov

3. The Zavyalikha Ski Resort, Tryokhgorny
Editor's Note: There's no photo available at the time of writing
The Zavyalikha Ski Resort has some amazing slopes which I’m sure will give you the adrenaline rush you are looking for. The staff there are known to be very welcoming and kind so you will not have any issues if you need any help. There is also a very affordable cafe located there, in case you want to get a bite or some hot drinks to warm up. Do note that some tracks might be closed if there is too little snow.
What skiers are saying about their experience:
“As usual in the Urals, the ride is very cold. I was there in January, riding at -23. We even had to wait for the lift to open, since it does not work below 25. The trails are quite long. Blue ones are perfect for intermediate skiing. The green in the middle has a steep section at the level of the blue-red. And in the end there is not always enough rollout. Snowboarders have to walk. Six-seater lift. I didn’t notice any queues even on a weekend without much frost (-15). Prices are high. 20 4k+ climbs. Although in 2 days I skated about 15 pieces, more is difficult. The ski pass is seasonal and seems to be uniform. You can ride along it in the famous golden valley in Zlatoust. Downstairs there is a large cafe with very reasonable prices. I was so full I could barely get up for 1.5k. Also with mulled wine.” - by Google reviewer, Sergey Somkov

4. Dombai Resort, Dombay

Now, this is the kind of panoramic view that I’d love to enjoy! Once you go on the lift, the views are even better as you can see it from above. The mountains and fresh air make the atmosphere even more amazing. The Dombay area features six cableways and the slope is 7 kilometres (4.3 miles) long. You’ll find many shops for equipment rentals, dining, and much more in the area.
What skiers are saying about their experience:
“…To ascend to the height, on the recommendation of the guide, we chose the oldest chairlift (pair-chair) cable car with ancient (nervous laughter!) fasteners in the form of metal chains, some of which, alas, are too short, that is, torn, to be fastened with, plus a launching protection bar. In a word, the safety precautions of the old lifting system, by and large, are entrusted solely to the responsibility and prudence of the tourists themselves. Gloves, a hat, a buff and insulated trousers are a must when climbing the old chairlift! If you don’t suffer from acrophobia, like to take photographs without cloudy glass, and are not timid yourself, then the climb up the old chairlift is worth it! Otherwise, it is better to choose a modern cable car complex, although more expensive, but more comfortable…” - by Google reviewer, SElena K.
