The Poznan Town Hall is a Renaissance-age 16th-century building that speaks of the troubled history of the land. The Gothic cellars that once served as a municipal prison within the Town Hall now serve as exhibit rooms of the Town Hall museum. Artifacts from as early as the 10th century of the first settlers are featured in the exhibits of this history museum. Although the building itself, with its sculpted lions, griffins and eagles serve as history well preserved, the Renaissance Hall, Royal Hall and the Court Hall inside the building hold the important documents and artifacts of the land’s history. One of the most disturbing yet important exhibits in the museum is the photograph of the Swastika fluttering in the Town Hall, marking the German Rule.

8. Offer prayers at the 1000-year-old Poznań Cathedral
Poznan Cathedral, which is the arch-cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul, was constructed in the year 968 AD in the 10th century as early as 1000 years ago. This is one of the oldest churches in Poland and it not only serves as a spiritual shrine but also as a historic masterpiece. The church has gone through numerous renovations and re-modeling after the fires of 1622, 1722 and 1945. During the liberation war in 1945, more than 65 percent of the cathedral got burnt. The National Museum of Poznan, also called Muzeum Narodowe w Poznaniu (MNP), is one of the largest Polish museums that is maintained by the government itself. The museum holds one of the largest collections of Polish paintings that date back to as early as the 16th century. The museum was established in the year 1857 and it has been a representation of Poznan’s rich history and art. Some of the important artists whose art has been featured in the museum’s collections include O. Boznańska, Kulik, J. Malczewski, Kantor, Stażewski, and Gustowska. 13. Explore the Morasko Meteorite Nature Reserve
The Morasko Meteorite Nature Reserve is located in the northern part of Poznan in the Mount Morasko region. The reserve was established in the year 1976 and is home to seven meteorite craters. The reserve spans an area of 55 hectares (135.9 acres) and has a thick Hornbeam and Oak forest cover. Two of the rare birds that you can spot in the reserve are the European Nightjar and the black Woodpecker. It is said that these caters were formed over 5000 years ago and the largest one of the seven is 100m (328 feet) wide and 11m (36 feet) deep. Five of the seven meteorites contain lakes, and despite being a great scenery to witness the place, is also a cosmic wonder.

15. Hang out at Park Cytadela
Park Cytadela is a 250 acre (100ha) park that is located in the military fortified areas of Poznan. This picturesque green space is a part of the Fort Winiary complex that served as the city’s defense base in from 1830. The Fort itself, with its thick brick walls, tall observation towers and decks, is a great monument of Poznan and a must-visit spot. There is so much history that is imbibed in the ruins of this Fort and the surrounding park which is worth exploring. It is also notable that Park Cytadela is Poznan’s largest park.

16. Wander around Pálmaház
Pálmaház botanical garden is located on the southeast banks of lake Rusalka. This 54-acre (22 ha) garden is home to over 7000 different plant species. The botanical garden comprises of 10 large pavilions with greenhouses showcasing plant-ecosystems from sub-tropical regions to the Savannah. 17. Wander around Park Tadeusz Mazowiecki
Poznan elected its first non-communist Prime- Minister for the Republic of Poland in the year 2014 and celebrated its 25th year of political changes. Park Tadeusz Mazowiecki was opened during the celebration by Polish President Bronisław Komorowski. The park is home to the two prominent Oaks of the country- the Oak of Freedom planted by the President and the Memorial Oak. The park is located between two iconic bridges, the Queen Jadwiga bridge and the Rocha bridge and it stands as both a positive political symbol as well as a stunning scenery of Poznan.

18. Visit the New Zoo with your children
The New Zoo in Poznan is one of the oldest Zoological gardens in the country opened in the year 1974. The New Zoo is a recent extension of the original Poznan Zoo that is connected using tramways. 19. Admire the Poznań goats of Town Hall
As you take a mid-day walk along the busy streets of the Poznan market, you will be able to witness two tin goats emerging out of the top door of the Poznan Town Hall building as the clock strikes 12 noon. The goats come out and start fighting 12 times until they go back inside the door. These goats have numerous significance connecting to Poznan’s history. It mainly sends out the message that the people have to stop for a few minutes and look up every day. Also, the goats symbolize a sign of relentlessness during times of war where soldiers came back on the stroke of noon to fight another day. 23. Learn about the excruciating past of Poznan at Fort VII Colomb
Fort VII Colomb was built from the year 1908 -1912 to serve as the defensive fort for the Prussians. Fort VII was an extension built of the original string of forts constructed in the late 18th century. During World War II, the fort was used as the first concentration camp of Nazi Germany in Poland. During this period about 20,000 Polish people, especially from Poznan, were said to have been imprisoned and later died in the Fort. Now named Fort Colomb, the fort houses a Museum for Wielkopolska Martyrs - Fort VII, which remembers the sacrifice of the Polish people.
