When traveling to Negros Occidental, the city of Bacolod often takes the spotlight where travelers go straight from the airport in Silay City. Between the two cities, there’s a city that’s often passed by. But little do most non-local visitors know, it has something unique to offer, from unlimited fruits to preserved ancestral houses.

Here are the best things to do while in Talisay:

1. Watch the colorful dance parade of Minuluan Festival

Minuluan Festival is a three-day celebration to commemorate the death anniversary of the city’s patron saint San Nicolas de Tolentino. Minuluan Festival has this unique way of showing their culture and tradition in a live performance which talks about the great heroes and the history of Talisay. So, if you want to watch their dance parade, mark September 8 to September 10 on your calendars.

Want to hear a unique romantic story? If yes, you better hear it right at “The Ruins” of Negros Occidental. The story you’ll hear may not have the usual happy ending most romantic stories have. But, it still became a favorite destination for couples, especially during Valentine’s Day. The Ruins is open to the public from 8:00am to 8:00pm daily.

Must Visit

"The Ruins in Talisay City Negros Occidental (Near Bacolod City Negros Occidental)

It is the remains of a mansion built in 1900’s. Inspired by Italian architecture, this mansion was built by a sugar baron as testament for his love to his wife. The structure was built on 440-hectare sugar plantation. However, it was burned down by Filipino guerilla fighters during the World War II, to prevent the Japanese Invaders in using it as their military office. Despite the fire and losing the majority of the structure, it’s ruins has been recognized as one of the architectural wonders of the country.

TIP: Visit the place in the afternoon till sunset, seeing the ruins against the glimmer of the sun while it sets gives it a more dramatic and fascinating effect ☺️"

4. Hike up Tinagong Dagat at Mt. Mandalagan

Want a different kind of hiking experience? Hike up to Tinagong Dagat where there is a wide open space waiting for you to relax and stay under the blue sky. Just a piece of advice: always do a quick search on the weather before going hiking because the plateau turns into a lagoon every time it rains.

When it rains, the water may reach high depths after a while. The water can reach from a knee-deep level up to 6 feet high (around 2 meters). It can be dangerous in this situation but if you still want to have a little “thrill,” you can still continue as long as you reach the advised higher ground route to make sure you stay safe.
