The Tropea beaches look like they were made to impress. The glittering waters with gentle waves make the ocean great for swimming and smooth, white-sand beaches are ideal for lounging around, making a picture-perfect day. You can take your pick of free public beaches or spend a little extra and go to a private beach where you can get rent a loungers, umbrellas, and other beach gear for a small fee. The temperature stays on the warmer side, so you can hit the beach most of the year.

4. Galavant around the Aeolian Islands on a 1 Day Cruise (from USD 85.0)

Mare, sole, natura e relax... benvenuti alle Eolie, sette splendide isole vulcaniche nominate sito UNESCO nel 2000....

The Aeolian Islands are some of the most stunning islands in the Mediterranean Sea - and are only accessible by boat/ship. You’ll have the chance to explore the caves and coves, take in the picturesque black sand beaches, and maybe catch Stromboli (one of the active volcanoes on the Islands) erupt. On this day long excursion, you’ll also be able to stop at Lipari, one of the lively Island towns, where you can admire the scenic views, catch sights of the castle and cathedral, and stop at Vulcano, the island of sulfur. A cruise to the Aeolian Islands is not something you want to miss.

5. Enjoy the sunset on a cliff overlooking the sea

Posted by Explore Calabria - Italy on Monday, 29 May 2017

Tropea is known for its cliffside shops and architecture - it is a town built on cliffs. So while you can admire the beaches and water below, you can also gaze at the beautiful sunsets in the distance. The dramatic cliffs provide the perfect backdrop for the gorgeous sunsets. If you’re not so keen on swinging your legs at the edge of a cliff, you can lounge on the terrace of one of the many cafes that are situated on the west side cliffs.

6. Admire Benedictine Sanctuary of Santa Maria dell’Isola

The Santa Maria dell'Isola is an iconic structure in Tropea. Renovated in 1905 after an earthquake, the church still maintains its original ~vibe~ (even though we don’t know the original construction date - we do know it was some time between the 6th and 9th-century). But this church looks like it just rose out of the cliff, it’s just so seamlessly integrated into it. Be sure to not only stop and gaze up at this magnificent structure but also take the time to venture to the top and take a look inside.

7. Frolic through the citrus groves and vineyards

While you may think of olives (and olive oil) when you think of the Mediterranean, you should also start thinking of citrus! Tropea is known for its citrus groves and vineyards. The groves and vineyards are just beyond the city walls and are spread across vast lands, creating a lovely backdrop for your outdoorsy excursions. You can visit these areas and learn about the sour history of the region (no, it’s not actually bad - I was just trying to make a (bad) pun) or explore the wine making process, because where else would you go to learn about wine?

8. Stroll through the city center

And finally, be sure to take a stroll through the city center. The center is full of cafes, bars, pizzerias, and more! You can grab dinner (and of course gelato) from one of the many restaurants and then work off that meal by wandering in and out of the many neighboring shops. You’ll get to see the stunning coastal, cliffside views of the Tropea and grab yourself a souvenir while you’re at it. So get ready to have a wonderful evening surrounded by the soft glow of the medieval-style lamps and atop the ancient cobblestone that will remind you of the stories you wished to be a part of.
