Miyazaki prefecture has many attractive sightseeing spots. One of them is Phoenix Seagaia Resort in Miyazaki city. Here you’ll find various activities offered for families, a zoo, and four different hotels. In this article I’ll introduce one of the most popular hotels, Sheraton Grande Ocean Resort.
A resort hotel whose rooms all face the ocean
The giant Phoenix Seagaia Resort spans over 11 kilometers from north to south and encompasses 700 hectares of black pine forest. It has 4 different types of accommodation facilities, including Sun Hotel Phoenix, Luxze Hitotsuba and Cottage Himuka. However the most attractive hotel is the 154-meter tall Sheraton Grande Ocean Resort.
It has a total of 743 rooms with an ocean view. Facilities include restaurants, bars, athletic clubs, shops, and there is a concierge lounge for trip planning support. All guests of the hotel can use these facilities.
A first-class room at the top of the hotel
The accommodation rates are different based on individual preferences and budgets. This hotel is suitable for couples, families and traveling girls. I recommend the special accommodation plan “Grande” which applies to the rooms between the 33rd and the 38th floors. They are all spacious, equipped with a Sheraton bed and have a fantastic ocean view. On the photo you can see the view from the room on the 36th floor. All you can see below is the pine tree forest and the sea. The “Grande” plan includes special amenities, evening cocktail service at the bar on the 42nd floor and priority access to the baths of Shosenkyu hot spring. All of this is a great treat for special occasions and will make your holiday luxurious. An even more luxurious accommodation plan is “Luxury Grande”. Please read more about it from the official website of the hotel.
Relaxing in an open-air bath surrounded by the pine tree forest
In the Shosenkyu hot spring facility which is next to the hotel you will find two baths and a separated one for private use. Day trip visitors can use all but the middle-size bath which is exclusively for guests of the hotel. The baths are surrounded by the black pine tree forest and are very atmospheric. There is a summer table in the garden as well.
The large bath is called “Tsukuyomi” and has an indoor pool with large windows which allow you to see the forest. An open-air rock pool can be found between the trees. It’s illuminated at night and has a mystical aura in the dark. There’s an outdoor sauna too.
The middle-size bath is called “Shingetsu”. Its indoor pool is spectacular with the traditional Oshima-nuri lacquer on the ceiling and the lattices. Everything is in fresh red and green colors. The outdoor pool offers an impressive view which resembles sceneries from the old Japanese myths. There is a pond across the rock pool. Hot spring information Open: 6 am to 12 pm (until 11:30 pm on Mondays) Day trip visit: Adult 2000 JPY, child 1000 JPY Hot spring type: Sodium-chloride Temperature of the source: 35.3 degrees
Eat local Miyazaki delicacies at the restaurant
There are several restaurants inside the hotel. One of the popular ones is “Pine Terrace” and offers international cuisine. You can enjoy both a buffet style dinner and menu a la carte dinner. The buffet has plenty of local Miyazaki delicacies such as the cold soup. For breakfast you can make your own vegetable sandwich with the variety of items offered.
The other restaurants are “Fukami” which specializes in hot plate dishes, “Aomi” which serves Chinese food, “Toyotama” where you can eat traditional Japanese dishes from Miyazaki, the Japanese-style bar “Karinona”, and “Tatsuya Kawagoe Miyazaki”, produced by the famous chef Kawagoe. All of those places offer top-class Miyazaki beef and chicken.
Enjoy a pleasant time with the animals
A popular spot for families is “Miyazaki Phoenix Zoo” which is not too far from the hotel. There are 1200 animals from 100 different species. In the African part you can see zebras and giraffes from very close.
Some of the daily events include a walking demonstration by the elephant, marching goats, a show with flamingos and interaction with little animals. The zoo was open in 1971 and one of its most famous attractions is the flamingo show in which 70 flamingo birds perform together.
Miyazaki Phoenix Zoo Open: 9 am to 5 pm (last entry until 4:30 pm) Closed: Every Wednesday, December 31 Admission: Adult 800 JPY, parking lot fee 400 JPY per car
What do you think about Phoenix Seagaia Resort that I presented to you? There are many other attractions, such as horse riding, forest cycling, beaches and marine leisure. There’s even a flower garden. If you visit Miyazaki, be sure to have a relaxing holiday at this resort!
