The French have always been creative and innovative. After all, they’re among the pioneers of the classical arts (remember the Renaissance?) Museums such as The Louvre and Musee d'Orsay in Paris are top examples of where they exhibit their cultural treasures. The country also boasts numerous architectural gems - and you can even stay in some of them! We have quite a list we handpicked from Airbnb’s OMG category. From limestone caves to eccentric treehouses, keep reading to discover the most unique Airbnbs in France.
We handpicked these listings carefully, considering (wherever possible) Superhost status, recent guest reviews, location, accommodation type, prices, availability of dates, decor, and amenities. The image galleries get refreshed with the latest updates regularly. They were last updated on December 03, 2024.

While the French aristocracy was infamous for being ostentatious and decadent, the humble folk of France were more practical.
Cave homes, also called troglodyte homes, make for convenient and easy-to-manage abodes.

2. The cider barrel cottage; Fiquefleur-Équainville, Upper Normandy (from USD 63)
Do you love cider? Well, here’s an entire cottage made of old cider barrels for you to live in.
While there are no free samples with the stay, it does come with nice amenities.
That barrel bed is my favorite aspect; not quite like Diogenes’s home, but it does give off a very snug and cozy vibe.

3. Posh and extensive cave home; Doue-en-Anjou, Loire Valley (from USD 147)
If it weren’t for the patio and tub, we’d have thought this was a secret hideout for a chivalric order.
Plenty of space inside and out, with all the modern fixings of a comfy home.
Chill and relax with some French wine over a friendly match or while soaking in the Nordic bath.

4. Champagne Bubbles; Germaine, Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine (from USD 121)
You’ll love this peaceful retreat surrounded by the woodlands and vineyards of Germaine.

Listen to the rustling of leaves and singing birds while having a lazy afternoon barbecue.
Location: Germaine, Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine Amenities: Kitchen, barbecue, baby crib

And while you’re in between adventures, you can take it easy with some wine and cheese in the garden.
Location: Cotignac, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Amenities: Wi-Fi, laundry, baby furniture, garden patio
