If you are a true college football fan, no matter which team you support, Goodyear’s classic blimps will always have a special place in your heart. The history of Goodyear’s Blimp with college football dates back to 1955 when it provided aerial coverage of the Rose Bowl Parade and the Rose Bowl game. This was historic, as the Goodyear Blimp provided the first aerial coverage of a major sporting event. Since then, it has been providing aerial coverage of college football games, covering more then 2,000 games.
The iconic blimp was inducted as an honorary member of the College Football Hall of Fame in January 2019, making it the first non-player or coach to ever receive the honour. Now, fans can experience a unique stay in the Goodyear Blimp’s gondola, read on to find out more!
A cozy night in the iconic dirigible (from USD 150)
The blue and gold Goodyear blimps, owned and operated by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, have been a mainstay of big college football matches. These airships have been providing areal coverage of these games since 1955, and thousands of times since. For the first time ever, the beloved blimp is open to guests for an overnight stay. Parked inside an expansive hangar, the size of almost three football fields, in Mogadore, a village in Ohio.
Once you book a stay, you will be led to your quarters inside the Blimp’s gondola. It features a full sofa bed, a cozy couch, and a private bathroom. You’ll love how the place is curated with Goodyear colors and memorabilia. Outside your sleeping quarters, you will find a football lounge with cozy seating, a small bar, and a TV where you can watch reruns of the best football games of all time. You’ll also be provided with a grill, cornhole, and fire pit which you can enjoy at a nice spot by the lake. Although the iconic blimp can only sleep two people, guests can invite two more friends over to share the fun during the day before they retire in the gondola of the blimp.
