Indulging in tempting ravioli with burrata, strolling down the cobbled stone streets of St. Peter’s Square, and admiring the iconic Colosseum are just a few reasons why vigorous vagabonds are in love with Rome — not to mention the Pantheon and Trastevere shouldn’t be ignored.

Long story short, there are many amazing things to do and unique places to visit in Rome. Because of this, many tourists have this city on their bucket lists. If you’re one of these people and you’re planning to visit soon, first you need to determine where to stay in Rome. Luckily, you have many options here — from fancy hotels to lovely Vrbo rentals. If you prefer the latter, check out this list of the top Vrbo vacation rentals in Rome, Italy.

What’s the latest news in Rome?

  • Rome has made another push to promote ride-sharing, as well as the use of foot scooters and electric bikes around the city. According to Roma Mobilita, the usage of the scooter-sharing service has quadrupled since 2022.
  • The Domus Tiberiana is open to the public 50 years since it was initially closed. Although neglected back in the 1970s, it underwent restoration and reopened back in September 2023.
  • The local government of Rome is looking into the issue of inflated ticket prices for the Colosseum which tourists and locals have decried as unjust and prohibitive. As part of the measures, Wanted in Rome reports that a new ticket office has opened at Largo della Salara / Via dei Fori Imperiali, along with the sale of tickets featuring the names of buyers online on the colosseo.it website.

We handpicked these listings carefully, considering (wherever possible) Superhost status, recent guest reviews, location, accommodation type, prices, availability of dates, decor, and amenities. 1. The Trastevere Penthouse (from USD 194)

Situated in Travestere, this vacation apartment in Rome offers an array of amazing features, foremost being the gorgeous terrace garden. Gaze at the historic streets and buildings while enjoying your meal, or even just an afternoon coffee. The garden is also a nice place to unwind, be it by reading a book, or doing yoga and meditations. You can even see the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica while doing your stretches. If you’re craving some grilled food, fire up the barbecue and have a cookout using local ingredients.

If you’re the indoors type, you can enjoy some relaxing tunes on the stereo system equipped with Bluetooth speakers, catch movies on satellite TV channels, or stream videos using the WiFi. While the kitchenette is equipped with a microwave and electric hob, you’ll also have plenty of dining options nearby.

Vatican Museums

This property is about a 20-minute drive from the Vatican Museums. The place is so surreal and so beautiful! I have always been attracted to architecture and buildings that are special and I was amazed to see how much dedication and hard work was put into this place.

The museum is full of walls, ceilings, and floors of art. In fact, the whole building is art. It’s incredible! It holds thousands of years worth of history, statues, and paintings known around the world. With that being said, if you value your time and want to have the opportunity to fully appreciate and immerse yourself in what this museum offers, you should go before it opens to the public. This is a must-see in Rome so plan accordingly. You can also purchase “skip the line” tickets which was the smartest thing we did all day!
