Pai is a small town in Northern Thailand that’s quite close to the Myanmar border. It’s also a rest stop for those who are on their way to Mae Hong Son from Chiang Mai. Pai’s culture is actually more largely influenced by the old Burma, now Myanmar.

Most backpackers venture here because of its quiet countryside feel as well as for its natural places of interests like their waterfalls, hot springs, and the excellent night market every Wednesday. Pai now has over 350 accommodations. Here are the best resorts, hotels and private accommodations for when you’re in the area:

We handpicked these listings carefully, considering (wherever possible) Superhost status, recent guest reviews, location, accommodation type, prices, availability of dates, decor, and amenities. The image galleries get refreshed with the latest updates regularly. They were last updated on October 24, 2024.

1. Rustic contemporary vibe at Reverie Siam (from USD 192)

If you’re aiming to use the term “shabby chic” again, it should be in this resort. A guest the whole resort “looks like a garden.” The rooms and villas are tastefully decorated with rustic furniture, distressed wood, and vintage accessories. There’s a gramophone by the bed stand, pendulums and hardbound books on the shelf, and crates, upcycled and turned to wooden seats.

Located at the back of Pai River, five minutes away from Pai Walking Street, Reverie Siam combines the best of traditional Thai with vintage colonial style accommodations. Each room is uniquely decorated. They have their own private balcony, lounges, seating areas and a flat-screen TV. The villas also have their own hot tubs.

There are two outdoor pools, a Mediterranean-Thai fusion restaurant, and a European bar called Silhouette where you can also order a la carte breakfasts. If requested, you can also catch the shuttle service to Pai Walking Street and to other tourist areas in the area. So it’s really no problem that it’s a little out of the main district. It’s quite even an advantage because you’ll be away from all the noise.

4. A curated experience at Art Farm Studio (from USD 26)

The address says it’s located in an “unnamed road” or in a “hidden garden” in downtown Pai. This should give you an indication that this place really isn’t a commercial entity. The Art Farm Studio is an art gallery, cafe, and bed and breakfast slash studio found in Pai. The place is run by the host, Vacharamon, who is the main contact.

The place is meant not just as an accommodation but a curated experience that aims to amplify peace and simplicity. The restaurant offers unique taste made from ingredients in the farm. You’ll be able to try sweet potato ice cream and ginger juice, favorites of many customers.

See you in Pai

The tourist season in Pai is from November to March. Accommodations are usually overbooked and therefore will be quite expensive. Because of the crowd, there’s also a tendency to run out of water and petrol, accompanied by electrical shortages. If you want to save up and enjoy these accommodations all to yourself, come during the offseason instead.
