Pai is a small town in Northern Thailand that’s quite close to the Myanmar border. It’s also a rest stop for those who are on their way to Mae Hong Son from Chiang Mai. Pai’s culture is actually more largely influenced by the old Burma, now Myanmar.
Most backpackers venture here because of its quiet countryside feel as well as for its natural places of interests like their waterfalls, hot springs, and the excellent night market every Wednesday. Pai now has over 350 accommodations. Here are the best resorts, hotels and private accommodations for when you’re in the area:
If you’re aiming to use the term “shabby chic” again, it should be in this resort. A guest the whole resort “looks like a garden.” The rooms and villas are tastefully decorated with rustic furniture, distressed wood, and vintage accessories. There’s a gramophone by the bed stand, pendulums and hardbound books on the shelf, and crates, upcycled and turned to wooden seats.
Located at the back of Pai River, five minutes away from Pai Walking Street, Reverie Siam combines the best of traditional Thai with vintage colonial style accommodations. Each room is uniquely decorated. They have their own private balcony, lounges, seating areas and a flat-screen TV. The villas also have their own hot tubs.
There are two outdoor pools, a Mediterranean-Thai fusion restaurant, and a European bar called Silhouette where you can also order a la carte breakfasts. If requested, you can also catch the shuttle service to Pai Walking Street and to other tourist areas in the area. So it’s really no problem that it’s a little out of the main district. It’s quite even an advantage because you’ll be away from all the noise.
Imagine jumping into the pool from your room in a matter of seconds. The Family House Zen Boutique allow you to do just that, in a saltwater pool, no less. Family House Zen Boutique is found in Pai Valley surrounded by the beautiful Pai mountains, which you can enjoy from the hotel patio.
Walking Street is just 150 meters (492 feet) away from the resort. You just need to cross a small bridge. The resort is quite intimate as it only has 23 rooms, all customized and decorated in contemporary Thai style. The room has a mini bar, a coffee and tea set, and cable TV.
Ai Pai is found just steps away from Pai Night Market and just 100 meters (330 feet) from the Pai Bus Station. The hotel has a terrace and views of the pool. Each room is air-conditioned and has a flat-screen TV. You can also stay in as the hotel has its own restaurant and bar.
The Family House has modern rooms overlooking beautiful gardens. You can also see the rivers, mountains and the terrific landscape from the private patios. The restaurant also has a great view of the river, so you can enjoy your food and drink while watching the rest of the world pass by.
A lot of guests have complimented this places for its speedy WiFi which is found all throughout the resort. It is a mere 5-minute walk to Walking Market, so it’s quite close to where the action is while still remote enough to be relaxing. But what makes the Family House especially famous are the owners, ladies and staff that run it.

The address says it’s located in an “unnamed road” or in a “hidden garden” in downtown Pai. This should give you an indication that this place really isn’t a commercial entity. The Art Farm Studio is an art gallery, cafe, and bed and breakfast slash studio found in Pai. The place is run by the host, Vacharamon, who is the main contact.
The place is meant not just as an accommodation but a curated experience that aims to amplify peace and simplicity. The restaurant offers unique taste made from ingredients in the farm. You’ll be able to try sweet potato ice cream and ginger juice, favorites of many customers.

The bungalows in this place are ideal for a peaceful and quiet retreat and commune with nature. It’s surrounded by trees and mountains and has a lovely pool where you can cool off when the weather gets too hot. The place is found in the hills of Pai, about 10 minutes away from the city center, and is a bit difficult to reach via commercial transportation. Not to worry though. One guest describes the atmosphere as “magical.” If you like communing with nature, Pai Phaya Resort gives you the feel of a wide open range. It’s situated on top of a hill, about 2.5 kilometers (8,202 feet) from Pai Walking Street and Pai Bus Station. The rooms offer either a mountain or garden view. You can also choose rooms with or without satellite TV and air conditioning. In the rooms, you’ll find an electric kettle and a dining table.
Pai Phraya also has an onsite restaurant where you can try Thai and western dishes, perfect for breakfast or late night snacks. The staff even go above and beyond to get you specific dishes even when it’s off the menu. There are also cocktails and drinks at the bar. But if you’d like to eat out for parts of your stay, Coffee in Love is just a 2-minute walk downhill.
If you’re bringing kids along, they’ll enjoy the morning routine of feeding the horses. The resort will also arrange a shuttle service from the airport to the resort, or from the resort to other local attractions. Check at the front desk upon arrival.
See you in Pai
The tourist season in Pai is from November to March. Accommodations are usually overbooked and therefore will be quite expensive. Because of the crowd, there’s also a tendency to run out of water and petrol, accompanied by electrical shortages. If you want to save up and enjoy these accommodations all to yourself, come during the offseason instead.
