A year later he had won the award for his creation, the 1987 ‘Blue Moon’, his first Zinfandel. Tobin James set up the elusive Tobin James Cellars in the place of a stagecoach stop, in the year 1994. There was a small winery at first in Tobin James Cellars, with an old-fashioned western-style saloon as the tasting room. Today it is a flourishing vineyard and winery.

Later, in the year 1979, he founded his own Eberle Winery. After just a year, he had produced his iconic Eberle Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery features the boar logo, which tells the story of the origin of the German name Eberle, which signifies “a small boar.”

The winery was built in a Tuscan-style, projecting excellent views of Mount Palomar and the Santa Ana mountains.
