A little red dot on the world map that packs a punch globally – Singapore – is a sovereign city-state located in Southeast Asia. Lying just one degree north of the equator, this metropolitan city enjoys a tropical rainforest climate all year round. Despite its tiny land area compared to its neighbours, since its independence in 1965, not only has Singapore developed rapidly to gain its world-class reputation as a commercial, financial and transportation hub, it has been hailed as one of the top destinations in the world to visit!

Many visitors may have the impression that there is little to do in Singapore except marvel at the brilliant skyscrapers and modern architecture, shop at premium departmental stores and savour a wide variety of good food. But before you dismiss Singapore as just another expensive first world city, this urban city offers you all these and more.

Escape from the city vibes to enjoy a refreshing stroll in the Singapore Botanic Garden, the first and only tropical botanic garden on the UNESCO’s World Heritage list, right in downtown Singapore. The absence of mountains does not mean you can’t hike. Get a unique hiking experience at the Southern Ridges – a 10-kilometer stretch of lovely green open spaces, where you can get the best spot to take in panoramic views of the city, harbour and Southern Islands, as well as explore the rich flora and fauna. Furthermore, explore the quaint little neighbourhoods such as Little India, Katong and Kampong Glam to better appreciate the harmonious multicultural society!

Useful things to know before visiting:
- Bring an umbrella as the weather can be unpredictable.
- Don’t litter or bring/distribute gum as it’s banned in Singapore.
- Not everyone speaks English.
- Tipping is not required here.
- The standard type of power socket is Type G.
- Singapore has an efficient Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) subway system. Several bus routes bring you around the island. Otherwise, you can easily book a private hire through apps such as Grab and Ryde.
