When you think about Gold Coast, Australia, two things come to mind: beaches with golden sand, and theme parks. If you then ask someone which theme parks s/he recommends, two words are bound to come up: Movie World. As an icon of the Gold Coast in its own right, here are 3 reasons why you definitely shouldn’t give Warner Bros. Movie World a miss when visiting Gold Coast.

You get to be part of the movie-making magic

Hollywood Stunt Driver 2

Hollywood wouldn’t be Hollywood if its shows weren’t spectacular. Here at Warner Bros. Movie World, shows are so spectacular that they keep you at the edge of your seat – quite literally.

The Looney Tunes 4D show is one for the kids, but also for the kid in you. So relive your childhood as you join Wile E. Coyote in his chase after Road Runner in this comical and upbeat simulation ride. With sudden jets of wind and water being blown and sprayed on you, you’ll find yourself in the midst of a laughing crowd amused by the realism this cartoon-based attraction offers. Put yourself in the shoes of Wile E. Coyote as your seat becomes his scooter and rocket, dramatically lurching forward till you reach the edge of your seat. (Spoiler: he doesn’t catch Road Runner in the end.)

If merely watching TNT explode on screen isn’t enough for you, then check out Hollywood Stunt Driver 2. Your heart races nearly as quickly as the racecars that go so fast in such a small space, they leave a cloud of smoke in their wake. That’s exactly how I felt in the spectators’ stand dripping in perspiration, a combination of anticipation and heat from the actual flames used in the explosive stunts. Also, if it’s been your dream to star in a movie, don’t let this opportunity pass you by! The show’s hosts call for volunteers to play different supporting roles in a pseudo-movie (but a really realistic one) that is filmed and edited within the length of the show, to give you a glimpse of how Warner Bros. work their magic in Hollywood.

Tip: check out the different shows’ updated timings on the Park Map when you first enter so you don’t miss them.

You get to walk on set

One of the many sets at Warner Bros. Movie World

Warner Bros. Movie World isn’t just an amusement park – it stays true to its theme of giving guests the feeling like they’re in a movie. And it isn’t just the rides that adhere to the theme. Every corner you turn as you walk from attraction to attraction is a visual spectacle on its own. It’s here that you marvel at how movie sets create 3-dimensional illusions out of 2-dimensional props.

I definitely wouldn’t say that the sets at Warner Bros. Movie World are the park’s main draw factor, but they undoubtedly complete the movie experience in between rides. And yes – they provide photo-worthy, Instagram-able spots as proof to your friends that you were here.

You get to fly with Superman!

Superman Escape towering over the rest of Warner Bros. Movie World

Just recounting my experience from sitting the rides at Warner Bros. Movie World gets me excited. For all adrenaline junkies and theme park-crazy travellers out there, you won’t be disappointed with the perfect balance of thrills and theming that Warner Bros. Movie World offers in their thrill rides!

Of note is Arkham Asylum, a Joker-from-Batman-themed ride. The ride’s corkscrew loops and multiple upside-down twists parallel the Joker’s erratic behavior. Don’t listen to the deafening screams you hear as you wait in line – trust me, it’s more fun than it is scary. Because the coaster has to go at such a high speed before it can make a loop, you won’t even feel like you’re upside down and 32 meters in the air. And after you take on Arkham Asylum, you really feel like you can take on the world.

If there is one ride you must not miss, it has to be Superman Escape. After a minute of slow plot build-up while meandering indoors, Superman tells you and your fellow passengers that the train is stuck: “There’s only one way out of here. I’ll push you. Fast.” Before you can let it sink in, the coaster begins accelerating from zero to 100km per hour in just two seconds, and you really get the feeling like you’re Superman bursting into the skies. From there on, it’s just 30 seconds of pure adrenaline-pumping action and screaming your lungs out. In fact, you might feel more of an adrenaline rush taking this ride than from skydiving! The G-force is strong in this one.

Caution: these thrill rides can be really extreme for some. To ensure your health and safety, be sure to check the different rides’ restrictions before getting in line.

Planning on heading to the Gold Coast?

If you’re planning on visiting the Gold Coast with young children, Warner Bros. Movie World has an entire section of attractions for the little ones as well. If you aren’t one for thrill rides, the park has several family-friendly moderate rides as well. If you’re a thrill-seeker, the park is a definite must-go. Simply put, the park promises a great time for everyone.

If you haven’t visited Warner Bros. Movie World, you haven’t visited the Gold Coast.
