Set within 22 acres (9 hectares) of lush tropical jungle, Bali Zoo provides an up-close and personal experience with the animals that nestle within the zoo grounds. It is a great opportunity to explore and learn about native species during your vacation. You can check out the walk-through aviaries and also go to the open range and see over 300 exotic animals, including African lions. Some of the resident animals in the park include Sumatran orangutans, elephants, bears, and more. The main mission of the zoo is to help visitors learn and understand the animals. While here, you get to pet, feed, and even take pictures with a few of them. Here’s a guide to Bali Zoo for an unforgettable experience.

Now that you have made your way to Bali Zoo, you must be wondering about what you can see and do in the park. Visitors can check out and engage with the exotic fauna through a variety of supervised activities held all day and all night. This premier wildlife conservatory is renowned for housing the rarest animals from Indonesia and around the world. So, while you are here, here are some of the things you can explore:

Elephant Mud Fun

Elephants are known for having many amazing traits, and at this zoo, you get to have a bath and get muddy with these majestic animals by shadowing an elephant trainer for a day. In this activity, you can learn and understand the elephant’s nature and their behavior. The activity is supervised by an experienced mahout, and you get to spend time with the friendly Sumatran elephants, bathe them, and also give them a very nice scrub. But don’t forget to bring an extra pair of clothes and a bathing suit, because you will be getting muddy with these gentle giants.

Have breakfast with an orangutan

Once in a while, it is great to be an early riser. And at Bali Zoo, this seems beneficial, as you get the chance to have breakfast with one of their most popular residents. This activity begins at 8 am and goes on until 10 am. You can start with a tasty cup of joe as orangutans play in the background. Along with this, savor a breakfast with a stunning view you will never forget. This includes visitors feasting on fruits, cereals, and fried rice while the orangutans are just a few steps away.

Night at the Zoo

Fun can be had during the day at Bali Zoo, but more fun awaits when the sun goes down. Night at the Zoo offers a whole new experience to visitors, where they can see many kinds of nocturnal creatures and big cats who come out only at night. Besides checking out these animals, you also get to enjoy a nice dinner and a fire dance under millions of stars. And while you enjoy a nice meal, the lions and their cubs will roam around the grasslands just a few meters away from where you are - a memorable way to end the visit.

The Wana

How does eating a tasty meal with a view of the majestic lions sound? That’s what you will get when you go to the Wana. Situated next to the admissions booth, this restaurant offers authentic Southeast Asian cuisine in a beautiful setting that resembles the tropical jungles of Bali. The best place to sit is near the large windows, where you get a chance to see these amazing animals up close. While here, make sure to try out the Balinese platter, khao soi (egg noodles), ikan acar kuning (yellow pickled fish), and nasi goreng mawut (scrambled fried rice).
