Maithon Dam literally means Mother’s Abode, it is the biggest reservoir of the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). The Maithon Dam is at Maithon, which is 48 kilometers (29.8 miles) from the city of Dhanbad, in Jharkand, India. The dam is constructed on the Barakar River and is spread over 6 sq/km (3.7 sq/miles). It is 4,789 meters (15,712 feet) long and 50.2 meters (165 feet) high. It was specially designed for flood control and generates 60,000 kW of electricity.
