The port city of Tacloban sits along San Pedro Bay and takes its name from ‘taklub’, a bamboo trap used to catch fish. It is the take-off point for adventure into the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines, known for its natural beauty. You’ll also find a smattering of historic landmarks in the area such as Price Mansion and Leyte Provincial Capitol. Balyuan Park, San Juanico Bridge, and Santo Nino Church are some other popular tourist attractions in the vicinity. Tacloban turns into a riot of colors during the many cultural festivals that are held here all year round. The city is also known for its capsule hotels that offer a unique and affordable way of exploring the region. Here’s a rundown of the best capsule hotels in Tacloban City, Philippines.

We handpicked these listings carefully, considering (wherever possible) Superhost status, recent guest reviews, location, accommodation type, prices, availability of dates, decor, and amenities. There are several establishments as well that are located right below Soledad Hostel. Among those is The Selftea Lab, a milk tea shop with quite a unique gimmick! I had the opportunity to visit the place back in 2019, and based on my experience there, the signature Selftea drink was indeed one for the books. If you're curious about drinking out of your own face, The Selftea Lab offers an add-on that lets you do exactly that. For a small fee, you can have your selfie picture printed on top of your choice of drink.

The Selftea Lab sits between the hostel's entrance and a laundry shop. You could take a sip from your Selftea order while watching your clothes being washed and tumbled!

Traveler's tips

Standing right across Dreamer Hostel, is Robinsons Tacloban, the city's pioneering shopping mall that's well-loved by many of its locals. Every moment is well-spent when you explore its wide variety of shopping, dining, and entertainment options.

Since its grand opening in 2009, it has become a go-to place for myself, my family, and a couple of my friends. Whether you're stocking up on groceries, discovering the latest food finds, or heading to the movies with popcorn on hand, Robinsons Tacloban is always here to give you whatever you need. The mall is open daily from 10am to 9pm. Its supermarket, however, opens two hours earlier at 8am.
