From a British trading colony, it has evolved to a global financial center and it is now one of the richest city-states in the world. The country takes pride in its port, which is one of the busiest in the world. Singapore is known for its beautiful fountains, which were constructed to beautify the city. Today, these wonders have drawn tourists from all over the world. While fountains used to be a place where one can quench his thirst, they have become a major attraction. Made of cast iron, the fountain is 6 meters (20 feet) high and was set up at Orchards Road Market to adorn the place and enhance its aesthetic value. Later, it was transferred to the entrance of the lawns of the Raffles Hotel. The massive Iron-Cast Fountain has added to the charm of the Palm Garden, which is now used as a venue for national and international conferences and meeting events.
