Lukang Town was once an important port during the Qing Dynasty in the 17th century, and it continued to be a bustling commercial area until the late 1800s after the arrival of the Japanese. ‘Lukang’ literally means Deer Harbor, a name given during the Dutch colonial era because the majority of the products exported at the harbor were deerskin. In the town, Lukang Old Street was known as a busy business district. For travelers arriving from Changhua Main Station, they can head across the street to the Changhua Bus Station and hop on any bus bound for Lugang Township. The old street is approximately 10 minutes away from the bus station, but even other areas of Lugang are very interesting so it wouldn’t be a boring stroll. Travelers arriving at the High Speed Railway Station will have to transfer to Changhua Main Station by using the Taiwan Railway trains.
